JD 2520 "ticking" noise

The only "ticking" I ever hear is the pre-heater at start and it stops when the orange light on the dash goes out.

For such a low hour tractor this is unlikely but, it could be an injector. If so, the engine will run smoothly and you most likely won't hear it when the engine is at higher revolutions. Use a stethoscope or hold a rod against the engine near the injectors with the other end by your ear to find which injector is making the tick.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I still have not been able to diagnose. Is this something to push forward and have the dealer look at?

I hate to be without my helper who can lift 800lbs+

I had a noise coming from the front battery area and it was the circle retaining clip for the front mower bracket. It was vibrating against the frame.

I was hoping that you would at least be able to establish the ticking is related (or not) to the changing rpm of the engine. Does the frequency of the 'tick' change or stays fixed ??

Having not tried the stethascope, then maybe a long screwdriver with the handle placed tight to one ear and the other end touching different areas on the tractor will help isolate the tick. Have done it successfully.

A lot will depend on your experience and knowledge of the many working parts in the tractor.

Hope you don't have to be without it.

I have the same ticking happening on my 2014 2025r. problem solved. exhaust manifold gasket leak.

Are you sure it's not your fuel pump clicking?

mine is very noticeable on the tractors left side not the right side where the fuel pump is.
