JD 2520 gas cap/hood clearance problem

Hi all. My gas cap doesn't clear the hole in the hood very well. The cap is pressed tight up against the hole in the hood towards the front of tractor. Slight bend in hood from this. I don't remember this problem when I first purchased the tractor 3 years ago, but noticed it last summer. Sometimes it seems to clear enough to allow me to remove the cap for fueling, other times it doesn't. Checked and rechecked the hood brackets as well as the fuel tank mounts. All tight. No accidents where anything might have gotten bent. This is driving me crazy. Googled this and found 3 other similar gas cap complaints. I could just use a grinding wheel and make the hole a little bigger, but would rather not if I don't have to.
Has anyone else on this sight had a similar problem with their JD?

I hope you get a response, mine does the same thing. I have noticed it is worse if I park in the back of the barn where the ground is more sloped back and to one side.

Thanks Danny. I hope it's not any type of frame flexing. It seems to me the frame sould be too rigid for that.

Well partner, I guess you and I are the only ones with this issue. Let me know if you come up with a solution. I need to remember to try mine one day on the flat concrete garage flloor.

Mine does the same thing from time to time. I've learned to only open the hood on perfectly flat ground and to check the clearance when closing it. I'm at 200+ hours and that's my only complaint.

Had my 2520 in the garage for the first time in year or so yesterday. Tried the hood/fuel cap clearence on the flat concrete floor, made no difference. Guess it is time to get a round file!

Are you sure its not a hinge adjustment issue. I would take the hood off and inspect the hinges before I would file on the hood.

I am also just starting to have this problem. It was fine for the first 5 years and now the last time i closed my hood, i got a nice little bend in the indent around the cap. I would say i usually open the hood on level ground for the most part, so cant comment on the issue of the ground not being level making a difference.

It is the bracket material JD used to secure the tank.It isn't strong enough.
There is a thread on another site showing a fix,but I can't post it here.
