I've started having a shifting issue on my 1988 JD 2355, when I try to put it in reverse, it feels more like neutral (can't feel the gear through the gear shift) and about 95% of the time it won't back up. Both forward ranges and forward gears all work fine. It has a cab, so getting a good look at the shift linkages is a bit challenging. I can't see anything obviously bent or broken but it seems like something must be. When it does reverse, it is typically right after starting, one of the first few attempts I make. I've tried shifting back and forth between low range and reverse, neutral and reverse, with the other gear lever in neutral, double clutching. I bled the slave cylinder, topped up the clutch fluid reservoir (which was low, the master cylinder leaks a bit) and put wd-40 on the shift linkages (they are kinda gunky). There is no grinding, though it does hop a bit when switching ranges, including reverse. If I could get the plastic cover off, I feel like I might be able to find reverse... like the gear stick isn't able to go far enough back right now (blocked by the plastic cover) and instead only makes it to neutral.

Of course, I was planning to get it tuned up this spring after hay feeding was done but we still have a few weeks of that left here in northern VT...
