JD 2210 tiller size

This brings up a point that I hinted to in my previous post. You often have to go with what's available in your area. Some guys have it lucky and have tons of dealers around. It's my impression that if you live in a more rural/agricultural area, you have more choices. People like myself, who live in a major metropolitan area (MD/VA/DC) have fewer choices. It's like trying to find a good deal on a boat when you live in the desert. I've got a dealer nearby that is listed with a bunch of implement makers as their "dealer". I've found that they typically don't keep much of anything in stock, except what a few items that they like. IF you can get them to quote a price it for an item they are usually at or above list to cover their shipping as well. The additional downside to that is that you are also buying sight unseen, which I won't do.

hi

I just got off the phone from JD, the model he has is the 647 tiller says it replaced the 450. Anyone familar with the 647?
I can't seem to find anything on that model

thanks

I've got a Caroni that sold for about $850 and works really well on my 4100. Agri-Supply sells them and carries the parts as well. It has a slip clutch and adjustable off-set.

When I ordered my First Choice tiller from Sweet Tractors it was delivered on a lift gate truck, shipping was like $90 from TN to WI. I backed up to the pallet, hooked it up and drove away. The Caroni tillers are really nice too.

Thanks for all the replies and info. I broke down and bought the JD 647, the dealer gave me a decent price and had one in stock. I'm not too big on buying sight on seen and having it shipped, I'm sure I could have saved a few bucks. Its probably the same tiller that everyone else sells since it says made in Italy on it.

I tried it out last night and this morning and it does do a nice job. I was going to use it to fix up a back yard and seed but its so much fun I made a couple gardens. I'm not much of a gardener but I'm gonna try my hand at it. At least it was fun to till up a couple spots.

thanks
Phil

Cadblaster,

You really do not have to travel all that far to find more dealers. Drive less than an hour from Montgomery County and you have quite a few. I think that you would be very surprised at what you can find.

As far as tiller size, I am using a Landpride RT15-48 tiller on the back of my JD4100. Having a few extra inches saves some time when tilling in the spring and fall. I currently till around a third of an acre for our crops. Takes more time to set the tiller up and remove it than it does to do the actual tilling.

Terry,

Heck an hour of drive time won't even get me out of Montgomery county on most days /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

(BTW, I apologize for hijacking this thread)

I do know where most of the dealers are located in the surrounding counties. I understand you have a pretty decent one up your way (CARLYLE & MARTIN), or so I'm told by a co-worker of mine who lives (and farms) in Fariplay.

Here's the rub with the local dealers. The same JD dealer that's in the Fredneck county, is also the same dealer that's 9 miles from me. This is also true with the Kubota/NH dealer. The Gaithersburg and Frederick are one and the same. So the reality is that I'd really have to drive out your way or up to PA, or cross the river in to VA.

This kind of takes the casual drive-and-see factor out of the picture. If you've got some other recomendations I'd certainly like to hear'm. I'm thinking I need to schedule a trip to the outlet mall in Hagarstown, for the wife, just justify a trip to C&M to see what they've got lying around.

Hey...Buy the Deere branded tiller size 48 inch...it is Imatch capatible, and parts are available through the Deere parts system...this is a big plus later down the road..where as many of the other companies may not be around for parts.

Frontier is not a Deere designed or product where parts are supplied through the Deere parts system. Actually the Deere tiller is priced about the same as Frontier model.

Enjoy the 2210...its a great tractor.
