JD 1550 air filter

I started this thread in the general forum, should have put it here. Does anyone know if the air filter location ( under the seat ) on the 1500 series JD front mount mowers gets dirty and needs replacement sooner than the older 1400 series with the air filter located above the engine? Is this new location under the seat a pain to change?

Likely has an "air restriction indicator" that would indicate when the filter needs attention.

Will be interested in what you find out as to "sooner" or not, and if it is a pain to change.

Also pretty dependent upon the dust conditions around where you use this mower.

Yes it is. The manual shows the restriction indicator, but not a clear pic of the air filter, and what is near it, possibly blocking easy access. . I have not found a 1550 on a dealers lot, so I am reluctant to drop big dollars into a machine that I haven't seen in action. A sales rep form Grasshopper let me drive a 900D front mount mower at my home. It seemed to be a nice unit, but I would still rather have a 4WD and a steering wheel. Still cutting grass with my JD2520 and a Woods RM660 mower. I hope the owner of a 1550 chimes in soon.

The air filter on the 1570 is under the seat. The air intake is on the side located under a removable panel. I am just getting started using the machine but it does not appear the filter will need servicing more often than a typical mower.

I've only serviced the filter once. It is a tight fit. The bottom latch is not visible so you have to feel it into place.
