JD 1530 PTO Clutch Engagement

I've recently acquired a 1530. It has the independent hyd. PTO option. I have been running a 6' bushog around the property and without a ton of experience have some questions about the performance of the PTO clutch.

1) It takes several seconds (3-5s) for it to begin turning the PTO (even at near idle), without any load on the bushog.
2) Under heavy load, the PTO will stop turning until I raise the implement. It does take a big load though (I would estimate at least 60-70% of available horsepower) for this to happen

Are these behaviors normal?

NO. How long since hyd filter was changed & sump screen(parts key 30) was checked/cleaned. Then I'd suggest to check trans pump pressure. It should be around 165 psi.

I'm curious, what is this option? Is this on the 6' bushhog or internal to the 1530?

Am wondering if this slippage is the PTO slip clutch being too loose.

But if it is low hyd. line pressure, then I've got some learnin to do..

I think an independent hydro PTO was an option, not sure though. If not the PT clutch is slipping.

Any hints on where to tap into for pressure check?

You can check trans./pto clutch pressure on shifter cover under sheet metal cover that the 2 gearshift levers protrude through.
