JD 133 Charging Problem

Hello everyone
I'm working on a JD lawn Tractor with a 13 hp Kohler engine. Model # CV13S, Spec.# 21525. It has a 15 amp charging system.
Here's the problem:
The diode inlne with the stator fried. I have the JD Tech manual and I've been going through the checks to see whats's wrong. I got to the voltage regulator/rectifer test and I can't find it. I went to my local JD service center and after some research he told my that the Kohler engine, spec. # 21525 doesn't have one. How can this be? If it is true, how does the AC voltage from the flywheel alternator convert to DC to charge the battery. If it's not true, where can I find the reg/rec? I've looked all over the machine and I really don't think there is one. The Tech manual does't address this and the parts guy who knows the machines really good has been out for awhile.

Any help is appreciatied. Links, info, diagrams. I can't seem to find any info on the Kohler engine with the above specs.
