Just sold my JD 970 TLB. Took 2 days on Craigslist!!!! Amazing.... I started the sell process a couple of weeks AFTER I started the ball rolling on comparing prices quoted from the green, yellow and orange dealers.

Got one initial price from the yellow guys for a 2007 rental with 145 hrs. $39,950. With the options, that's a shade over 15% off list for a brand new machine. Told the guy it ain't realistic and we're gonna chew on some new numbers this week --- at this point, he's still flexible.

Been playing phone tag with the green guys. He's got some numbers for me but I haven't seem 'em yet.

Haven't been back to the orange guys but the initial contact was list price for the L39 and the L48. No big surprise there...

MACDABS indicated something on the order of 23-28% off MSRP for the machine he ordered. I have searched 8-10 times on TBN in the Construction equip and the Deere forums with no luck on additional prices and/or owner issues for the 110.

So... I'm really wondering how other guys have come out on the deals they made with their dealers. In addition, I'm still pretty "foggy" on what's reasonable with the questions of freight and setup fees.

I know that with cars and trucks the manufacturers divvy up the costs nationwide to come up with a uniform shipping cost. So, it's the same to get a truck shipped to the dealer in AK as it would be for my folk's in SD. My understanding is that if dealers in the smaller markets had to pay the freight for cars/trucks on the showroom floor at the going rate --- we'd all be lined up in Detroit or Georgia to pick up our rigs.

Appreciate any and all feedback.

AKFISH,
When I started I looking the local yellow dealer has a 110 TLB used with 50 hrs and a new one. Neither had the third svc valve option. The used one with 50 hrs was used at the local hospital as a loaner/rental to load salt for the spreader truck . Once you subject anything to that salt , it always keeps rusting , I was not interested. The new on he was 5k higher than the green guys from the start. We have several dealers in a 50mile radius , and every green dealer said they would have to order one is why I think they are willing to discount deep.
The green dealers mainly sell subcuts and the yellow dealers sale much larger 310/410 machines. I would think a cash deal you should be able to get 25% easy with no trade.
A local tree service even claims he was in the 35k range. I know it never hurts to ask. I noticed you said you sold your 970 , I was going to sale my 4310 outright but sales tax on a all cash deal kills us in PA vs trading. Also one dealer had freight the others did not. I use to by a new truck every two years from a local Ford dealer that tried the prep game , I said call me when the truck comes off the carrier I can pull the plastic off the seats .

Good luck,
Macdabs

Thanks, MACDABS. Saw the green guy today. He's gonna give me some OTD quotes for the 110 and a 4320. We'll see how hungry he is...
Talked to a yellow dealer in the lower 48 and he offered me a new '08 110 for about 18-19% below MSRP.
The local yellow dealer won't budge off the $40K quote for the used machine. That's probably OK in the long run, anyway. I'd have to order all the things I want on the machine -- thumb, 3pt, drawbar, lights, quick-tach hoe bucket, grapple. It wouldn't make any kind of money sense to do that!!
I came back with a request for a new machine quote. I don't have high hopes that he's gonna be anywhere close to what I can get a machine for in the lower 48 states.
I've already made 3 trips in the past 5 years to haul equipment back up to Alaska. So, it won't be something that ain't been done before....!

AK, they delivered my new 110 last month. Had to special order one as they move really quick out here. Ended up getting every option except the 4 in 1 bucket. Ran 45k with tax.

Have about 15 hours on it so far and only found a few small problems. Dealer will take care of them this spring. I want to wait till I get a few more hours and then they can give it a once over.

Absolutely love the machine and cannot wait till this spring to start really using it.

Hi Ak, sad to see that you sold the 970. Hope you got a good price for it.
Lot's of luck on your 110 hunt. Winter is the best time to go tractor shopping.

take care,

NFA -- Hmm.. $45K, huh? What size hoe bucket? First blush; looks like something around 12% off MSRP. Is that close?

George; good to hear from you. Yah, I hate to see the 'ol 970 go. I was just out in the shop puttin' a coat of wax on her, topped off the fuel tank and adjusted all the tire chains and added a couple of bungey cords to the rear ones.
I spun off each rear chain (one at a time) while plowing the neighbors out. Had to drive the tractor home to the shop to get the chains back on. I'm not real keen on the idea of crawlin' around in 2 feet of snow tryin' to find the link on the inside of the tire in the dark when it's been around or below zero for most of the last week...
I got $19.4K for her with the 2 sets of tires and rims (turfs and R1's), the 3pt. logsplitter and the tire chains. 'Course I reworked the FEL bucket, added halogen lights front and back, new grill and heavy duty grill guard, and dynomite thumb on the hoe. Threw in all the OEM JD tech manuals, lot's of filters (air, oil, hyd) and other pieces parts.
Totally dry, straight tractor with 650hrs.
I feel good about it and I think the new owner is pretty happy.
Now, if I can just get the local dealer's to work with me a bit and come around with a reasonable price on a new tractor.
Time will tell.

NFA Fun --- what kind of financing did you work out with your dealer? One of the dealer's mentioned that I could get 0% for 36 months with zero down!

I looked high and low on the Deere webpage and couldn't find any mention of a financing package like that!!

What are the "little" problems that have come up with your 110?
I haven't seen a lot of issues with them on these pages beyond some tranny problems with the early machines and some alignment problems with the thumb on some of those machines. Bent and broken mounts, etc.

I think that they've taken care of the transmission problems and I haven't heard any more yelps from broken thumbs; so maybe Deere fixed that, too.

Lookin' forward to your pics.

Akfish,
I know many of the financing deals on the 4000 series applies to the 110TLB frame model. The dealers I spoke with were offering 24 mos o% and a low rate , I think 2.99% on the 36 mos option. Cash on the differance price no financing was a additional $300.00 off. I think your best bet is always make the deal then bring up finance options vs additional savings.

Thanks. I agree. That's generally been my approach, too. I was more than a little curious about the salesman's accuracy...

My hoe bucket is a 16" HD and the front is the 72" HD. I ended up ordering mine right at the very end of the 0% / 36. Put 20k down and financed the rest at a 60 month term to keep the payment down. Goal is to have it paid off by the end of 08. Took them almost two months to build and deliver.

The two problems I have right now are loader leak down, and the front bucket will go totally limp. Dealer has not yet looked at it, so cannot comment on what is wrong. Going to put a few more hours on it to work out any more bugs.
