JD 1026r wont start

have a new JD 1026r diesel, six mos old, and past 2 times using it when i tried to start it it wouldnt turn over, message on dash says put in neutral which i did and still had trouble. It started after a bit. Today it did the same after running for about 5 hrs cutting grass with the rear brush cutter. It wouldnt start no matter what, i left it for a bit and came back and it tries to start for a second then doesnt turn over and same message. The dealer is closed and i was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I guess its under warranty so the dealer will have to fix it?

Does the light stay on after you have the machine in neutral? It sounds like the switch that tells it when you are in neutral could be out of adjustment or malfunctioning.

I think thats exactly it, there must be some sort of kill switch that tells the starter im in neutral. I never had this with my JD 425, so dont know what i can do other than wait for the dealer. Any ideas are appreciated

It might not be that difficult to fix yourself if it is just out of adjustment. It probably has a jamb nut on either side of a bracket, loosen one and tighten the other to move the switch closer to the lever to make contact.

If you don't want to try and fix it yourself just wiggle the lever while in neutral and see if you can get it to start until you can get to the dealer.
