I have JD 4600 with a 460 loader and 48 backhoe. The selective control valve (SCV) operates the front-end loader stopped curling the bucket. I found the problem to be the center Load check valve. The online JD parts catalog does not break down the SVC enough to get a part number. The local dealer says this part of the SCV is not serviceable and I have to buy a new SCV unit at around $600. The JD technical manual states "Remove valve. Replace O-ring. Inspect poppet and spring for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.( Mine is damaged.) When I told the dealer this he says he don't know why the manual would say this. I called another deal in the next town, he said he would have research it and get back with me. A week and four calls from me gets nothing. Does anyone know where I might get the part I need? Thanks, Mitch

Welcome to TBN!
This sounds like its going to be a PITA for you!
Do you have the SCV removed from the tractor? If so, you could try to get the parts from a hydraulic shop in your area.
That is all the advice I have, hopefully someone else can help more...be patient.

There is usually only a couple of parts to a load check, the spring, the poppet and some o-rings. The o-rings should be pretty common. The spring and poppet are probably propritary to that valve and are not going to be found unless you get them from JD. I am sure those repair parts are available and are identified somewhere in a JD parts manual. Spending $600 for a new valve is silly when the replacement parts will probably cost less than $20.

I am assuming JD has some type of customer service. If your dealer is hesitant to look up parts why don't you just contact JD customer service directly?

Thank you Ken for the welcome and input. No, I don't have the SCV removed I was able to take the load valve out in place.
Mad you are correct there is an O-ring, spring and poppet. I believe I have no choice but to get the parts from John Deere. I am not buying a new SCV that is crazy. I was hoping someone knew a knowlegeable JD parts man that could give me a part number for the individual parts or rebuild kit. I have a call in to a third dealer hoping he can help.
Thanks Mitch

Third Dealer no help. Says he cannot find the breakdown on the SVC for the parts either. E-mailed JD but have not received a reply. Anyone have this problem before with their SVC? Any place for me to look?

Have you tried JDParts online? They have drawings with everything exploded and every part is identified. On a different screen you enter in the part number and it gives you a price along with current stock at area dealers. I research all my parts this way to avoid confusion at the parts desk.

I regret to say yes I have. It breaks it down to the SCV and check valves but not the check valve part numbers or a kit. I am hoping someone has been here and knows where the secert answer is.

You might try contacting Husco International. I believe deere uses their valves on this tractor. It looks alot like the model 9210. They have only one location in the U.S. :
HUSCO International, Inc.
W239 N218 Pewaukee Road
Waukesha WI 53188 USA
Phone: 262-513-4200
Fax: 262-513-4514

I don't think you will have much luck with Husco especially if that is a valve made especially for JD. Husco also makes the Kubota loader valves and they will not discuss anything about them, function or parts wise. They will refer you back to the tractor manufacturer which is Kubota. I'll bet that the valve is made for JD so they will be no help at all, but then again you might get lucky and it will be a standard catalog item and they will help.

Island man, Deere doen't service the oad checks, we have had to replace some under warranty and you had to get the complete valve. I may can find you a check, but they used two different ones, one had a flat "wafer" and a spring, and the other was a poppet and spring. Yoou'll have to clean off the top of the valve and carefully remove one to know which you have. Let me know and I'll dig. Joe

Hallelujah. I e-mailed John Deere Customer Service last week following MadReferee's advice. Laurie with JDCS contacted me by phone and said she could not find the parts listed anywhere. She did not stop there, she has worked on my SCV problem since and kept me informed. She had to go to the engineering department and backtrack from there. Today she called me with the SCV poppet replacement kit part number. AM100201. I called my dealer, he typed in the number and sure enough it came up as the right parts. They will be here in the morning. I take back most of the mean thoughts I have been thinking about John Deere's parts service and want to say their customer service rep. Laurie shines. I want to thank everyone for their input. I really want to thank joecdeere. He has to be a great guy to offer to dig me out the used parts. Members like Joe makes a site like this the best.

How much was that part kit? $20? I would tell the owner/manager at your dealership that their lack of effort almost cost you $580.

She truly did well, your parts man did the same thing I did, went to the dual SCV which doesn't show a check kit, however the single valve does, I'm glad the engineers told her it was the same because Deere usally isn't smart enough to use the same type valve in both applications. Let us know it works, and I'll try to file it away for the next one that need to know. Don't be too hard on the parts guy, the 4000 series parts book is the worst written in Deere history, we finally thew ours out and only looked parts online for years

I don't blame my dealer at all. I believe they did everything they could to find the part but was handicapped by limited access to information. I went to three different dealers (Pensacola Fl., Jay, Fl., Atmore Alabama.) and they all said the same thing about no parts breakdown. The kit is $28.50. I wonder how many people paid almost $600 plus labor when all they needed to spend is $30 just because the book or computer don't have it listed? My 1998 4600 has over 1,300 hours with very few problems and all have been small. Even this problem was an easy cheap fix just finding the part was an ordeal.

Update: The parts are installed and the 4600 is alive and well. Gave it a full workout moving brushpiles to the burn area without a bit of problem.
