J.D. 317 ENGINE PROBLEMS

I just purchased a 317 (mint condition) for $250.00 with a blown engine. What are my options for repairing (replacement engine, rebuild) It does have the engine #24301 that is supposed to be the new one. I haven't had a chance to find out what is wrong with the engine that is in it yet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
