MarkV,hey nieghbor,Bird,I feel for you fellas..Here in Bham area it was supposed to reach 102 last Sunday...(don't no if it made it)The small lake I swim in on the weekends is already 85deg. Talk about bath water...Just think we still have August to go yet...Aren't I just a cheerfull fella to have around.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The NOAA heat predictions don't show a break for the South http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/hi_outlook.html. Here in the Mid-Atlantic, it has been one of the best summers and crop-growing seasons in years. No lingering hot spells, no periods of draught. Corn growth has been phenomenal. Wish it was like this every year!

Rowski. Where you are it was obviously cooler. In the Champlain Valley [ 7-18-99] it was officially 97 degrees with oppresive humidity. My home thermometer peaked at 103. I went to the [air conditioned] Vets club with the intention off staying there until November. Unfortunately they made my wife come get me. Dave.

Since this is the "Off Topic" area, I'll go off topic! I was at a Motorcycle Swap Meet in Wauseon, Ohio last weekend helping my brother who set up as a vendor to sell some extra Harley and Indian parts that he had accumulated. Parts and bikes were supposed to be 1965 and older.

A guy from Alabama stopped by my brother's spot on a 1961 Cushman that looked like it just rolled out of the showroom. He was a character, heck of a nice guy that stood and talked for awhile, even asked us if we wanted to drive his Cushman since he gets as much enjoyment out of watching people look at it or ride it as he does owning it! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

My question for you, do all of you guys from down there talk like that? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Remember, up here in Michigan we think that we DON'T have any accent! I really enjoyed his accent but it took him a long time to get the words out! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Sounds like on the average, temperature and rainfall are just fine. Guess it is kinda like the paper said on the death penality, on the average we execute the right number of people. Sure be nice if they were the guilty ones, though.

Hey Bird,I heard last night on the local news Tusscalosa AL, has had 14 days of 100 deg temps or higher...OUCH!!!My wife just told me that in our area the temp was 103 today and is still 100 now as 6:15pm...Don't know if I'll complain about how fast summer fly's by at least until this December at least.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif...Jim,yes I'm afraid Most of us talk that way...The trick is that the further some one lives from a major city (like Bham) often the accent is "longer"(more drawl)and slower...Me,I have always been abit of a quick talker...Even had fella from NYCity ask me of I was realy from bama or just pullin his leg..Plus I have lived on both coasts and in Chicago so my accent has thinned...Though sence I've been home a while,if we were to get on a land line, I'm sure you'd say different/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif...But if any thing I bet he was pooo--liiiiite...Besides if you think he had one,try talken to some one from rural Texas or SCarolina..My mother-n-law is from (a small tex-town,i forget warr)and I can still pick out her accent in a crowded room...she's lived here over 30yrs.../w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Now if you want some one with no accent try those west coasters!!!At least the ones I lived around in San Josey...Course we only have an accent above the MASON DIXON LINE right Bird.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

There are more thing than accents that give a location to a drawl so to speak. What would the cashier say to you at the store--sir do you want your pop in a sack? Around here a cashier would say do you want your soda in a bag. When we moved to Bay City when I was a kid I actually laughed at the cashier thinking she was joking. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
The bad thing is I had no idea what pop was!!!
Do they still make Vernerrs or something like that sort of like ginger ale only alot nastier tasting. Dad used to love that stuff. Mainly because we wouldn't drink it on him.
