Is Ventrac tough enough?

Those ventracs look like nice machines. (I would love one but I have no use for one, and since I am 14 I cant afford it):(

Okay, I just have to ask: What is it with the striping that gets everyone excited (and I see that lots of people do)? I actually prefer seeing just a nice expanse of grass without it looking like someone just mowed it.

I hear you. I said before that the striping actually adds time to the job, because you have to do it carefully or else it looks bad. It only lasts for a few days. The remarkable thing about the the VT contour mower is not the striping, but rather the way it can handle difficult terrain without scalping or leaving high spots.

A striped lawn is beautiful in the right setting. So is an un-mowed field. Both have their place.

We had an old Simplicity lawn mower with full width rollers on the back that left a beautiful pattern on the lawn. I would mow it a different direction every time and sometimes would start in the center and work my way out in circles, ovals, squares or rectangles. The spiral out from the center was my favorite and got the most compliments.

Now, I do not usually have the time to do those intricate patterns and the PT does not do them well. But once in a while I'll tow our Brinley lawn sweeper behind me to get a nice striped effect.

The Steiner costs less will not have as much HP but will mow, blow, scoop. check it out at Steiner Tractors and Attachments
I own both, the Steiner and the Ventrac. The Steiner isnt worth a pimple on a Ventracs butt. I bought both machines new and have to say the Steiner was the worse purchase I ever made.

I like their ad

"Quick hitch. Change attachments in minutes"

Power-Trac
Change attachments in 15 seconds!

The power trac attachment plate system is the easiest and quickest as long as your attachment does not require hydraulic power via the quick disconnect hoses-- then you have to turn off the tractor and dismount... I have found the belt driven PTO on the Ventrac much easier to deal with. However, some of the Ventrac attachments also use hydraulic connections as well. So for most attachments that I use I think Ventrac has a slight edge. I chose to buy a power trac for other reasons including the cost factor.

Why do you say that? What is it about the Steiner you don't like? Is it Horsepower, size, the operations?
