I paid for a "new" standard duty cutter, which was delivered yesterday, while I was away. Question: Does this look like a NEW gear box to you?

I hope one of these links works. If not, I can post another way. Let me know. Thanks! Rob

Could be new but it looks like it has been sitting outside in the weather for quite a while. THe RED paint has also lost it's shine and looks like it is turning pink.

Take a look at the blades and see if they have any wear.

Looks like a new one that has been sitting outside for a year or three.

Blades look OK, although there is also a touch of rust on the top of the disc thing the blades attach to.

No discount, full price. What kind of discount would be appropriate?

There was a line of cutters at the dealers and I didn't pick out a specific one and assumed new is new. If I had seen this one, I would have picked another, no question about it. :(

Would it be safe to assume the internal mechanism is sound?

Update...response form the dealer:

[They need to put more paint on them, It is one of the two on the lot when you purchased your cutter,

I assure you it has never been off the Lot or demo'd.

Best regards

-------

PS I did make a special delivery of your cutter because I was afraid you were needing it.]

My personal thoughts are, might have been better off saving some money and buying a CountryLine cutter which (to my eyes) appear just as good and have superior paint. Oh well, next time I can always take my business elsewhere. Really do need to get out on two of the pastures asap, so guess I'll just give this cutter a coat of paint and get busy.

Appreciate all your comments. Thanks! Rob

if there is no blade wear. then yeah it is technically new/never used. just been sitting in inventory/outside for a few years. Personally I would also call this "new old stock" and would want a discount.

Make sure the gearbox has oil... most new units are shipped dry. Same for greasing the U joints.

I don't understand why thousand dollar equipment sits outside uncovered. I wouldn't pay full price for that.

Most equipment is outside uncovered before being sold. Then it go's to a farm and sits outside.

All my equipment is outside, except for the tractor. It sits inside the barn addition. Everything else is about 400 ft away.
