I use orange surveyors tape for this, keep a roll in the truck tool box. Couple of 18" lengths tied on will do the trick.

I built a set of fork pockets for my trailer, works nice. As for the forks sticking out , I'd tie a flag on it and go with it.Semi-relivent... one of our trailers at work has box tubes welded under the deck so as to allow a set of forks to be inserted, disconnected and secured, without taking up deck space. Allows a skidsteer with bucket on the deck, forks on the side, one trip. Car hauler type trailer, fork backing plate/ssqa no wider than fenders. Slick.
I would be inclined to add fork pockets, or drop the forks at the front of the trailer just so make sure they aren't a problem...Is this overhang compliant? It will be properly secured. It's about 10" past the ramp hinges.
