I wasn't crazy about GM taking bail out money either. But I've had good luck with their trucks and I'm not going to stop buying them just to make a political statement.

As far as brand loyalty goes if I thought Ford or Dodge had a truck that suited me more than my Duramax I'd buy it. But right now I don't think either of them have an engine/transmission combo that beats the Duramax/Allison.

I agree, but you have to admit that 5.9 Cummins is one sweet motor.

It sure is, and Dodge/Cummins has always had good engines. But they've never had a decent automatic transmission that held up to the torque. Supposedly the new one is good, but we'll see how they hold up after a few years.

They've been using the same 6 speed auto since 2007 and same 5 speed for 5 years before that. I'd say it's held up very well but feel free to wait a few more years...

I just wish you could chose your motor and tranny. I would have a Ford truck with a 5.9L Cummins and a 7 speed Torque Shift.

I have yet to driven a Asian tranny truck but that may be a good choice also and the 6 Speed Allison is good as long as you don't go to adding a bunch of power.

No experience with an Asin tranny in a truck, but Volvo put them (AW-70, AW-71 and AW-72 in both lockup and non-lockup versions) in their 200, 700 and 900 series cars and they did very well.
Word has it that they are pretty much bulletproof with less than ~300HP in front of them (stock HP is 114-190 depending on the engine).

Interesting. My mother drove Volvo's for a number of years, maybe 15 to 20. I remember some 240's and a 700 something or other. Great cars.

I have had an AW-71L in a '89 740 Wagon (had 180k miles when I sold it for $100 more than I bought it for), a '93 940 Wagon (still running at ~180k miles) and I currently have a '97 V90 (also a wagon, just a baby at 116k miles) with a AW30-40 in it.

If you support a bailed out company that is your choice. I will not, plain and simple.

Back to the bail-out stuff again. Which airline do you work for? One that took bail-out money in 2001? Are there any major U.S. airlines that didn't?

How did a post about a $200 part that can be replaced in about 3 hr become so far off. It has become a GM bashing thread and many similar threads have been locked. Not sure why this one isn't.

Chris your original post was about the defective crimps on the tranny cooler lines. The OEM replacements are no better than the original. I understand your friend has the extended warranty but for the time and aggravation I strongly suggest you purchase one of the aftermarket solutions and install them.

Now for the other stuff you've brought up, if it's being repaired under warranty what's the issue. If the dealer can't fix it correctly find another dealer.

This thread is just brand bashing and should be closed.

I do not work for a airline. I worked for FedEx in the late 90's but got out while I could. Unions and politics were too much for me.

I have flown corporate jets for 3 different companies since 1998. My current job I have been at for 12 years and could not be happier.

As for bail-outs I feel very strong about this. I moved all my money to banks that took no bail outs along with my home loan. Cars, trucks, and boats are all paid off except for the BMW and its financed though them. I will not touch a vehicle that has been manufactured by a bail-out company. This is just my beliefs. Its shady business. Buy what you chose.
