Is this a scam? Is the dealer pulling my leg? Extra transmission gear needed for open station L6060?

A contract has an offer and an acceptance. Did you put down ANY consideration i.e. cheque/credit card/deposit/money/trade in and have a signed document in writing of the deliverables? If yes, then the dealer is SOL and will have to eat it. If not, be prepared to walk.

Honest mistake or otherwise, the tractor with factory installed shaft is considerably less expensive than is the tractor with expensive dealer installed shaft.

Tell him that you want a different unit with factory installed (much less expensive) shaft.

Now that's what I would do. I would not want to purchase a brand new tractor and have the dealership break it down in half before I took possession of it.

Seems like the dealer should have been better informed. I wouldn't pay to crack open a brand new tractor to have the dealership add a gear. I'd be losing sleep worried that they didnt do something exactly to specs. When I ordered my first and only brand new tractor the dealer delivered it with a painted over front end loader. I could see blue paint through a scratch in the orange sprayed on paint. I had them load it back up and drive it an hour back to their dealership. Made them order another BH FEL that matched the M6800. No hard feelings just wanted what I'd paid for.

Definitely have them order a new one with the gear. I don’t know what the dangers are in splitting a tractor, but I would not risk it.
