Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

You got it exactly right. Not for everyone but for a few. Just like owning a Bugatti. Not for everyone (and certainly not me) but there will always be a select few that own and can afford one.

The rest of us have to be satisified with a cookie cutter vehicle that today is overpriced anyway.
I could afford one but why would I want to waste my money on a $100k that can't do so many things a gas or diesel truck does... no, it's a gimmick, a status symbol, a lifestyle choice, a political statement...maybe all of these but it sure as hell is not a pickup truck as we know and use them. You do you, I passed. No surprise, I passed on the whole electric car craze.

Long ago I thought the battery vehicle thing was a craze. A flash in the pan.
For big cities it may make some sense to divert pollution somewhere else. The cybertruck looks to be designed by some computer geek who never saw or owned a real truck.

I don't like the look of them. I view people who drive the the same way I view people driving super expensive cars.
I's just not for me. I suspect most cybertruck owners don't really need a working truck. They are certainly not gonna be pulling their gooseneck trailer with that. :D
I have a cousin who presently drives a Model 3 Dual Motor, and has already told me he'll be replacing it with a Cybertruck, when the time comes to replace that car. His heaviest trailer is a small landscape trailer he uses for hauling his lawn tractor or zero turn mower... and it's too small to even do both of those at once. He's also a weekend warrior moving material for DIY projects. The Cybertruck is probably perfect for him, but it's still ugly. :p

Stockholders have pinned their hopes on robotaxis, AI, and robots, not car sales.
I still remember the words of my first boss, "the stock market is driven by fear and greed, with little or no relation to reality."

Predict company X revenue will go up 6%, but then the earnings report shows it only rose by 5%, and the stock price will drop.

Look at GM stock today, 9% haircut after a pretty good earnings report.

I will say one thing about them, we had no issue fitting 3 large gutted does in the bed at all and the added weight of them plus out hunting gear and 3 of us didn't impact the ride or handling one bit off roading out of the property or getting back to town either.

My cousin told me the bed has more room than his Ram truck has, he has one of those as well, so he ought to know.

With 3 large gutted deer carcasses in the bed, we still had room for the rifles and hunting boots, no problem and he was able to close the electric tonneau cover as well.

One aspect of it that I really appreciated was the instant climate control. Being in the teens, it was nice to get into an instantly warm cabin unlike an ICE vehicle that would have to be remote started to warm up.

I have no idea on the cold weather range as I didn't ask and there was a Supercharger station right across from the hotel where we stayed and I have no idea what it cost to charge either. Thy might be ugly, but impressively ugly.

Other that providing a way for investors to make $$, and to kick other auto makers in the pants, Tesla has no reason to exist.

An electric motor in a car is nothing more than a line-item option. Check one box: Gas, Diesel, Hybrid, Electric. Now pick the color, choose your interior trim package, etc. It doesn't even justify a specific car model, let along a whole company. There is nothing to prevent every car manufacturer from offering electric versions of their cars. Oh, wait, they are already doing that. You don't see specific car models because they have an automatic transmission rather than a manual transmission. And you surely don't see a whole car company built around offering automatic transmissions.

All the feedback I get from people who have owned Teslas is that they are fundamentally crappy cars. Lots of problems, and cheap construction. Electric, yes. But otherwise crap. Other companies are underselling their forecasts of electric cars. That speaks to real market demand. The only reason Tesla is selling more is because it's a fashion statement. A way for indulgent people to green-wash themselves. It's for 1%ers to demonstrate their greenness.

I think the cyber truck's outward appearance hinders its acceptance. The design is for a niche that for the most part can't afford it :D
And if that is such a great design why don't his cars look the same? Because they are very popular....
