I have a john deere 990 with a 430 loader. I noticed that all the pivot points are not insert bushed. I am aware that the pins are likely softer in material than the initial bushings themselves, but was surprised to see that the bushings were not replaceable. Is this typical?

Everyones out checking their loaders right now I bet! Just was curious, because it it is the norm, I'm trading it for a Kubota!:D

Would the JD be second hand or has been rebuilt?

My Caterpillar D4 and JD backhoe do not have separate bushes and they seem to work fine.

I assume my 430 will, too.

Good luck with your trade.

This is a CUT, not a tractor marketed towards heavy construction or commercial use-that's what skid steers are for. If you keep all the pivots well greased your loader will outlive you. There are no threads here about 430 (or any other) loaders falling apart because of non-replaceable bushings.

Tractor Beam,

Kenny usually has some of the the best technical answers around here. I was curious on this answer and was gonna suggest just naming the post "KennyD".

It'd be like fishing. You'd wait for him to take the bait....then get your answer.

Thanks Kenny,

Absolutely not a piece of crap. I've a JD 430 loader, and used it a lot. No sign of a problem.
Not sure what the OP is all excited about.
And I didn't go check them. :D
Didn't need to, because it is still tight, and I keep them lightly greased.

Have fun with your other brand. We'll look in on your posts there. :)

And play the Music soft and slow. :)

Come on folks... the guy asked an honest question!

No need to turn on 'em like you're behind on your rabies vaccinations! :D

FWIW - the bucket pins on my old JD 80 FEL were gettin' pretty sloppy. I was planning to take it to a local machinist and have oversized bushings installed.

Cheaper than a new loader... likely about the same total cost as a good used bucket - IMO.

'Course the new 300CX has replaceable bushings - he could always go that route - and get more lift capacity in the bargain!

Might we be seeing a 990 going up for sale in the near future for cheap ?

Where do you live Beamer ?

(I've got the upgrade bug)
