Long story, but had to get a custom built size commercial skylight. Was told custom made skylights generally take 2-4 weeks. Turned out to be 16 weeks.

Waiting on a whole house hepa air filtration system for a customer. 1 month turned into two months, now I'm told 3 months.

There is/was actually a shortage of HVAC equipment in marketplaces a couple of months ago. That at least has seemed to of gotten better.

Speaking of HVAC. Another friend of mine is having a new house built now. Just started hanging sheetrock. I was looking around and checked out the HVAC that was installed. I looked at every tag on it. Read all the fine print. Never saw a manufacturer name anywhere. Also couldn't find a S/N tag anywhere. Odd......

I ordered a wood splitter last month. It came 1 week earlier than estimated (to my door in under 10 days). Go figure.

Yes, well, with Covid, everyone wants HEPA filters, and manufacturing is backed way up.

Funny that you should mention HVAC with no details. I was asked to provide it to our utility, (energy audit, long story), and looked all over the furnace, outside, and inside panels. Couldn't find it. No BTUs, no power draw, nothing. A few months later the electrostatic precipitator power supply blew out, and in repairing that, I noticed a tiny 2"x3" plate afixed to the top of the furnace with the necessary details. Never would have found it otherwise, as it is six plus feet in the air, in an unlit space.

All the best, Peter

I never looked on top of this unit. I just thought it odd that there was no "brand" decal on the front. The installer also installed mine. I'll ask him next time I see him. Just thought it odd. :)

Tell your friend to tell the GC he would like documentation that his HVAC equipment has been registered for warranty, and he would like a copy of that documentation. Model and serial number will be on the documentation. At worst, something should be on an inside panel.

The only time I know of guys who install units with no tags, it's generally because they were installed somewhere else and already registered to that original location. Don't think it happened on a new house, but the only thing I've come across is old units where the model and serial has faded over a couple of decades.

More than odd per your friends situation.

Lot's of contractors will take the brand nameplate off the unit. Some manufacturers even make "sub lines" that are no different than the "premium brand" other than color. Generally, if you've been around units long enough, you can tell who makes them just by looking at them.

Air Quest
Tempstar
Heil
Comfortmaker
Grandaire
Maratherm

All made by ICP, pretty much the same unit, and all owned by Carrier.

Carrier themselves have as many or if not more that I may of forgot to list as an example above.

It does happen on a new house. The builder who did my house many years ago got caught about a year after he built ours and went to jail. He would install the AC (no registration), then come back later and steal it. Then he offered to install a new unit. He got caught when a homeower registered the s/n before he could steal it and the "new" unit that was being offered was the same s/n that had been registered.

I致e been waiting on a new front door for my house since April. Now they tell me it will be another month before they can get.

I called today looking for a new lawnmower for my lawn care business. Two John Deere dealers one said he might have two on the other end of the state. He wasn稚 sure if they still had them. The other said they didn稚 have any in South Carolina. Both dealers have at least six stores in the state. One told me they are supposed to get some in sometime in December.

I also called a snapper pro dealer and a gravely dealer. Snapper pro had none and gravely had one small commercial grade. Neither knew when they would get anymore in.

It痴 time for people to go back to work so us that have to work can keep working.

I picked up a breaker box and breakers for a last minute job for a friend before I head north for the winter in a couple weeks.
Plenty of breakers on hand at Menards, square D, Westinghouse, GE, Homelite ect,
But plumbing parts were in short supply.
