Anyone else having trouble with their internet connection. I have broadband, cable modem, and can be online one minute, check something else and not be connected, then in a minute or so, again connected.

Today downloading a file for adware, it started, then stopped then finished about 2 minutes later.........like my connection was gone.

Lights on the modem show activity, and my local network is fine.

Ideas?

My dsl connection has been spotty at best for the last few hours. For 2 or 3 days, I've had a time getting logged on. Thought it was just me.

Misery loves company. Welcome!

Just some thoughts 1) Could someone else be online hogging the bandwith causing you to think you got dropped? I get this when I am in a hotel a lot. 2) Do you have wireless internet and could the wireless router be dropping the signal? My router has a tendancy to hit or miss with the signal, but if i unplug and replug it, it it works great.

just a thought

bandwidth determined by the cable company, my connection is not there.

wireless does not count on my desktop, but great thoughts.

Who is your provider?

Also are you going through any type of router (wired or wireless)? If so, remove the router from the loop and see if the problem goes away. Makes sure to reboot the modem and computer after switching configurations. Routers do go bad quite often...I'm on my third wired router in eight years (it's always been a blown capacitor in my cases and many others).

Also have you done any speed tests? I've found the Speakeasy test to be the most consistant and reliable. Let us know your results. Run it about 3-4 times.

Your cable company determines the maximum bandwidth, but your actual throughput my be slower. If everyone on your street is downloading a big file at the same time you are, you will perceive the slowdown.

That said, the real problem is losing the signal. If it is persistent over a couple of days, then I would contact your cable internet provider and have them check your line.

The digital breeze over current political subjects is making the surface of the internet a bit choppy, if you drop down a few logic levels it smooths out with depth /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have been experiencing some Internet hang ups lately. Comcast has made some updates lately in my area. Did a cable modem reset this morning. Seems to have cleared up problem for now.

I've been having the exact same problem, pretty much same circumstances. I have unplugged the (wired) router and plugged the modem in directly - same problem. I've had 3 new modems in the last year - same problem. Cable provider (Roadrunner) says there's no problem on the node and the problem must be with me..............
