Installing a Seat

Horses ate the seat cushions off my MF 230. It's a pure wonder that the beasts didn't eat the tires. They have to be the most aggravating creatures on God's green earth! Back to the subject at hand.... I bought a universal replacement seat, with a suspension system, from Northern Tool. Have any of you used one of these seats? Cost was $100, and the display model in the store looked OK, but I haven't even opened the box since I brought it home. I hope it is a matter of taking loose a bolt or two and mounting the new one up. I have no help, so if it ain't a one-man job, I have to drag the neighbors over.

The seat is fairly simple to figure out. It pieces together easily after a few minutes of studying all of the pieces. The 230 has two bolts sticking up through you housing on which you mount the seat. You'll have to slide the seat to the most forward position to fasten one of the bolts and the slide it almost all of the way back to fasten the other bolt. Hope that helps.

Well, I finally got around to installing the new seat this weekend. It turned out to be more aggravating than I had hoped. Getting the old seat off was easy. I then installed the baseplate for the new seat. That was a mistake. The bolts protrude too much. You have to install the seat on the baseplate and then put the whole works onto the two bolts and tighten as best you can reach the consarned bolts. There are two screws into the seat back that I never got more than finger tight. Fortunately, there are two others that I could cinch down on. The whole arrangement feels somewhat loosey-goosey. I guess I am not accustomed to a suspension seat. Other than that, it is fairly comfortable and easy to adjust forward and backward.
