Hi you guys. I have a 7 year old chinese tractor that has no fuel gauge (meter) and it is really annoying at times. So i wonder if someone can point me to a way (a video or so) for dummies to install one on my tractor. I am guessing it works with the same principal as a toilet ... but that's all i know (told you ... for dummies lol)

thanks

Can be as simple or as complex as you want:

Try here

Or you can do something like this:

Alternate way is to get clear tubing and 2 elbows and use an external gauge:

Remember when lawn mowers had a spiral screw under the gas cap with a float on them that would give a reading of how much fuel was in the tank?
I removed an Allis Chalmers B fuel tank, and found a fuel gauge inside. It was a smooth stick, about a 18 inches long. It had been floating around in the tank for so long that it had worn parts of the stick smooth from sloshing back and forth. I would think if I dropped a stick in the tank that I was using to check depth of gas, I would have taken the time to get it out. (however, if I as a kid did it, I might not want to tell my Dad, so it would stay there for years!)

My old jd 3020 had a gauge but it didn't work and I didn't have the interest to chase the problem down.

A 3/8ths wood dowel 24" long and a sharpie was my fix.

My Kubota M6040 does have a fuel gauge. I've never had need of it. I uses a very simple plan regarding fuel. EVERY SINGLE TIME I use the tractor - I refill the fuel tank.

It ensures two things - there will be very little space for moisture condensation and I will never run out of fuel. Forty plus years out here - moisture/water in the fuel has NEVER been a problem and I have NEVER run out of fuel.

I had a 25 foot tape measure break,,
so,,
I cut a 2 foot long piece, and I have that hanging on a wall near where the tractor parts.
The section of tape measure starts at 10",, so, that is the new "zero"

Since the piece of tape measure is steel, it is easy to clean, and a small magnet holds it on the wall.
