inline filter location ?

Very new to forum but loving it. I've got an s-650g, and while I'm still trying to nail down the exact year (believe 8?), I'm trying to work through issues from it setting for a year plus. I've cleaned the carb, had the accelrator pump fixed as the "leather?" On the bottom was deteriorated and still need to run it with the choke on about 3/4. Do I need to buy an actual rebuild kit and change out jets? Runs like a top at times so I'm going to install new fuel lines and want to put an inline filter on it but wondering if it would be ok to put it in front of pump between tank and pump or put it on the pressure side after the pump. Thanks in advance and please bear with the questions I will have, but I'm new to tractors in general, much less Satoh.

Originally this tractor had a filter before the pump. This keeps crud from getting into the pump, which is a good thing. A Fram G-2 works well.

Heres a picture of the original location of the filter on my 71 Bison.
Took it just as I was starting the restore.
On your running only with the choke on issue. Is that at low RPM only or
Higher speeds? Possable plugged Idle jet or vacuume leak knowing what speed
the problem is will help give ideas on the fix.
