Info on the GR2110

Hey everyone,

Just read all the older post on this model lawn tractor but noticed that most of the posts were rather old so I thought I would ask again...

Anyone out there own this model? I am getting rid on my old Toro POS and want to upgrade to a good heavy duty lawn tractor. I have a local dealer that has one left and his price is 7200 with the 52" deck + tax. List price is 8400. But price is not really a big concern. I want someting that is going to work and work hard for a long time. I mow 3 acres and I no loger want to bounce around on my little Toro for 3 hours. I love the idea of the diesel engine, shaft driven deck amd trans, power lift, and power steering. The 4 well drive is not really needed since I only have flat ground. Compared to other models this one really stands out with those features. JD X540 has some of those but still is a gas engine and no AWD and it was a couple of hundred more. Looked at some others and really the Kubota and the JD would be my choices.

So I am curious if anyone can give me some feed back on this model. Noticed there were some posts about some problems with the hydro taking a dump and something bad about the glidesteer.

I would prefer a G series but even better would be a BX1850.
Baring that there is always a used BX1500 or BX1830.

Did a lot of research on the GR models recently when I was looking for a dedicated mower. I looked hard at the BX1850 as LB suggests because the price is close and the versatility is better (you always can find a use for a 3pt hitch and future fel). I know you mentioned flat terrain but do you have obstacles? (low branches, etc.). The glide steer would be useful. Overall, if you don't have hills and you're not letting the grass grow out of control, diesel is a little overkill for lawn mowing (but I understand the attraction to diesel durability and power and smell). I ended up with an AGCO/Simplicity 2027 or Legacy XL diesel 4wd as a dedicated mower for my hills. The price is more than either Kubot I looked at but IMHO the cut is superior.

We've sell quite alot of GR's with really only good feedback about the latest generation of them.

Thats why I got one of the last G2160-60 mowers the dealer had, just two many quirks with the GR. I think the G2160-48s is still available and maybe if you pushed you could find the G2160 in the 60 or 54. But if you have more space and no trees to catch the ROPS on, like Brown says the BX is a good choice

Curious: Your avatar indicates you may already own an L3130. Have you considered a ZD-series ZTR? My cousin runs an older ZD21 on his 5 acres (90% grass) and mows them lickity split. I've used it before...very impressive machine. Bulletproof.

I run a 60" deck on my BX2230 and can mow my heavily wooded 1 acre in well under an hour. That includes bagging. I dig it. I think you can only get a 54" deck on the BX1850...need to move up to the BX2350 to get the 60".

I would beg, borrow, and steal for a 60" deck on whatever mower you choose. It is HUGE and cuts your mow time down significantly.

The BX1850-30-00 all handeled the 60" mower as well as the 48" and 54"

You know, I had a line in my post where I wasn't 100% sure, but that I'm positive someone would quickly correct me if I was wrong. I removed that line in final editing. Well...

Actually, the Kubota website lists the 48" with only the 1850, the 54" with the 1850/2350/24, and the 60" with only the 2350/24.

This is NOT to say that I don't think the BX1850 could HANDLE the 60" deck...I think it could. And I'm sure it would physically mount without any problems. That just isn't how Kubota recommends it be sold. I'm not sure how it works at the dealer level...if they'd let an 1850 leave the doors with a 60" deck installed against manufacturer suggestions. Just don't know.

Well I also looked at the BX's....still have not ruled the out but I do have a L3130 to take care of the tractor needs. Love that thing. I feel that the BX's features just would not get used....mainly the 3pt and the 4x4 so I am leaning toward just a dedicated mower. I also looked at the G series online at the Kubota website....I really need to find a dealer that has some of the things.....I just do not see many defferences from the online info compared to the GR series. But a little BX sure would look cool parked next to my L3130. Is the BX mowing deck ground engaging or floating??? Just wondering.

I have looked at a lot of zero turns from Kubota,Scag, CC, Country Clipper, Grasshopper, Ferris, and Dixon. Liked the Country Clipper with the single joystick control and flip up deck. And I also thought the Ferris was cool with the suspension system. I still have not really ruled out the ZT type mowers but for the money some of those units get is crazy. Do you really need a fab'ed deck with 1/4 steel. Before the Toro I had a little Montgomery Ward lawn mower from the 80's with a skimpy little stamped out deck and it had no rust holes or cracks in it. It is hard for me to see value in a macine like that.....so set me straight.

I just want a comfortable, quiet, good quality cut riding mower that is a good value. Spending 7 grand on ZT with an air cooled Kohler and choppy ride just does not seem real to me.

So basically I hope to research everything and come up with the perfect mower for me. The little GR Kubota mainly caught my eye because of the diesel engine. I do love the smell of a diesel!! (Enter grunting and other manly sounds here)

If your lawn if flat and you already have a tractor for tractor work a ZTR is the way to go. It will cut the lawn much faster than a tractor. I guess it depends how much seat time you want or need. It also depends if you want to pull attachments such as a trailer, spreader, etc. behind it. If you don't need to pull anything, a ZTR will work.

If you really want to go the lawn tractor route, I would get a BX with just a deck. I believe the price of a GR2100 vs G2160 vs BX1850 with a deck are about the same. The BX has a floating deck similar to what the GR2100/G2160 has and probably a similar quality of cut. If you ever decide to sell or upgrade, the BX will have much better resale down the line than a G/GR series will. You could also add a loader to the BX but that would bring the cost up quite a bit over a GR or G. I do like the looks of the G2160-r48s rear shooter though, very cool model.

Total $ 9100.
I asked him about a G2160 with a 54'' Mower deck and he said they cost to close to the price of the BX1850 so he don't even stock any of them.
He says the BX1850 is a lot better deal than the G series for about the same money.

MyBX23 was $15500 the Simplicity Legacy XL was $21000.

So much to consider!!!!! I am planning on making a run to a larger Kubota dealer down in Saginaw.....forget thier name.....this coming Thursday. The BX1850 sounds like a good idea but I do have a lot of trees that the RIOPS would be a pain. I know I will get yelled at but anyone ever just take them off??? I know the the BX will keep its value...I know my L3130 has lost little or no value in the last 5 years. So with my trip to the dealer I hope to get some good info.

I checked out the G2160-48 withe the bagger unit. This is somthing that for some reason I have never considered. I have so many maple trees that the bagger sure would be nice in the fall and I saw that they make a little chute so you could take the bagger off and just dump the clippings out the rear if I wanted to. Pretty cool looking little rig.

If I do ot find a 08 model this fall I sure wioll have the info for this next spring to dive in to. I sure need something to hope for through the winter.....although I do love plowing snow with the L3130!!! Diesel smoke on a cold morning plowing snow.....what more could I ask for!

My new Legacy XL 4WD Diesel was 14K and change earlier this year and that was all tricked out with the 60" mower and rear tripple bagger.

I was in the same position. I was very close to purchasing a BX185 or 2350 as a dedicated mower but the rigid ROPS was the deal breaking drawback. I have too many hills to remove it in good conscience. The dealer proposed putting on a BX24 foldable ROPS but I just couldn't go for that.

Not to over-simplify, but the ROPS barely stands 6' tall. I simply limb all my trees back. I have a 14' Stihl pole saw...I cut whatever limbs I can reach with that...makes the yard look much better. I get around my yard just fine.

That center discharge deck looks hot...and the dumping bagger even hotter. I'm a fan of the BX just because it does everything but make my coffee in the morning. Just haven't found an implement for that. A dedicated mower would be nice for mowing, that's for sure. The BX can get a little large in some spots.

At the same time, 10 MPH ground speed, 4WD when you need it, 60" deck, and the ability to put a blade or sweeper on the front to do things your L couldn't do would have some appeal to me.

The ROPS on my BX1500s are a lot lower than my
BX23 foldable ROPS .
Getting under things is not a problem with the BX1500 but then I guess it should not be as clearance isn't any big deal for for the BX23 either.

How do you use 2 60 '' mowers?

Well in Oregon during peak growing season in the spring we have about a 5 to 6 day cutting cycle and with the 4+ acres and trails added on it sometimes takes two people to do the mowing. Also during the fall I will saddle up the catcher for the leaves on the BX2230 and it stays on until winter and the G2160 fills in and also is used when the BX is setup with the box scrapper, rear blade or tiller. so they alternate duties kind of like your setup.

Plus since both decks are exactly the same except for the gear box orientation and lift points I only have to stock one set of spare parts.
