I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING TO BUY THE L3400. THE ONLY QUESTION I HAVE IS THIS. THE DEALER IS RECCOMENDING ME BUY AN AFTERMARKET BACKHOE INSTEAD OF THE BH75. HIS REASON IS THE AFTERMARKET ONE RUNS OFF THE PTO INSTAED OF THE TRACTOR OWN HYD.SYSTEM, THEREFORE SINCE THE PTO IS RUNNING SAID BACKHOE YOU WOULD ONLY HAVE TO REV THE MOTOR A LITTLE BECAUSE THE PTO IS RUNNING FULL STEAM AT LOW RPM VS THE TRACTORS HYD SYS NEEDS TO BE REVED HIGHER TO RUN THE BH75. YOUR OPINION WOULD BE GREAT.

PS....THE BH IS WALINSTEIN
CHEERS!

Well that's interesting since rated 540PTO is 2500rpms.

I have the L2800 and BH75 that I run off the tractor hydraulics, I run the tractor at 1500-1800rpms most of the time using the hoe, I have not seen a need to run it any higher.

I have aan L3400 and have a BH75. I run my tractor at about 1500 to 1800 RPMS and don't have any problem. If you use a PTO pump you would need another small reservoir and have more maint. with the sep pump, filter and hydraulic system.

I think your dealer has a Wallenstein backhoe that he wants to sell.

I went with the BH75 over the Woods cause of price only. Had to draw the line somewhere. I really wanted the woods cause of the thumb option.

I have an L3400 and a Woods BH 80, PTO Pump, 18" Bucket and Thumb with the 4 pt sub-frame ---- REPEAT 4 pt sub-frame. Highly recommend!

If you should decide to go with a 3pt back hoe, make sure that your dealer installs the heavy duty re-enforced bracket for the top link assembly.

Your salesman is WRONG !

Stick with the BH75 or BH80 and get the SUB FRAME

Are you up here in Ontario? I've found for some reason the dealers like to push Wallestein backhoes up here.

Not that they are necessarily a bad hoe - but looks like the rest of the world is running their BH75 or Woods BH80X hoes off the tractor's hydraulics so why deal with the hassle of a hydraulic pump?

I'd probably stick with the BHA75 or BH80X Woods with a subframe if I were you.

I think Bro-Tek is doing thumbs for the Bh75 now.

I have the L3400 and the BH75. I haven't used the back-hoe very much yet but when I have used it I just set the engine throttle at a speed a little under 2000 and go for it. I have operated Case 580's and 680's in the past and the BH75 seems like a toy compared to their digging capacity but it does fine for my own personal use. I am not contracting to dig trenches.

From what I read here before I bought my tractor I didn't even consider a 3 pt back-hoe. When digging with the back-hoe you really do put a lot of stress on the machine. I feel a lot more comfortable with the sub frame under the tractor.

I think you can get the LA513 loader for the L3400. I would go that route if I had it to do over again.

No... The LA463 is the only loader.

Weird advice... there is no reason to run a PTO pump on a modern tractor. They are a thing of the past.

Problem is Neil, unlike you, most dealers are mentally situated somewhere in the past :)

I was confused with the quick-attach adapter. It fits both the LA513 & LA463. Sorry!

Chuck is right - I've recently gotten a price from Richard on the Bro-Tek thumb for the BH75.

I was curious about this when I fit the QA from the LA513 to my LA463. It turns out that nearly all the part numbers from the LA513 match the LA463 including the boom and the cylinders, with the exception of the decals and control valve.

Obviously it's not Kubota approved but I bet it would not be too hard to make it work, how the L2800/3400 would tolerate it, I don't know. Sure would be nice to have the extra capacity though.

The L3400 is a wonderful machine, if it's properly sized to meet your needs you'll not likely be disappointed!

I have a L3400 with BH on a sub frame (BH 75) installed by the dealer and have used it (24 inch bucket) a lot. Only constraints are the somewhat light weight of the tractor (just dig less aggressively) and the length of the BH. I think the 75 is short making it necessary to move it often when trenching.

Check out the length of the options and get the longest, you won't be sorry.

Either way you will love having a BH - good luck
