john deere 5203
Good morn fellas. If this is in the wrong sub forum mods please put wherever it will get the most looks. On to my question. I'm about to sell my 2005 JD 5203 with super low hrs. It had been under a top only shed with no sides. So the wheels are a lil faded. Should I go by the JD store and pick up a can o yellow paint and spray paint the wheels or will it sell faster bringing more green for me as it sits? I just want it to look like the practically new JD it is.
Thanks,
Big Ed

If the rest of the tractor paint looks like new I would definitely paint the wheels, and being very careful to avoid over-spray

We sold a 30 year old tractor once. It was really like new and we detailed it. When the dealer came to look at our trade, he couldn't believe it. I know the dollar devaluated, but we got way more then we paid in 72 or 3.

treating the tires to make them nice and black looks good too. Anything you can do without spending a lot of time and money helps.

I like to paint the floor where the paint quickly gets worn off.

Having all manuals and records looks good too.

Don't paint the wheels UNLESS:

you are able to do so by taking the centers apart from the rims
you do not paint the hardware and valve stems
you mask off the tires inside and out for no overspray

If you think your machine will look better with some half-arsed rattle can work done in 30 minutes, you are WRONG. I would be much more likely to buy it with faded rims than badly painted rims. In fact, badly painted rims are a huge pet peeve of mine.

Better than paint would be a good coat of cleaner wax or even a polish job, if they are not rusted or too far gone.

Good luck.

Rustoleum claims this will restore faded paint.

I'm in the don't paint it camp. Soap and hot water will sell faster.

An honest tractor will sell better;I.E. no rattle car paint jobs.

My tractor sits out in the yard. It has for 20 years. A little Meguirs number 9 swirl remover to polish the faded paint followed by some wax and it looks showroom new. I would rather have faded paint I can clean up that a poor attempt at touchup paint.

I agree with most of the above, rattle can will make it look like you are hiding something.
Wash it up, shine the tires, I like the turtle wax ICE for the rim's as it doesn't leave white streaks like paste wax does, in fact turtle wax ice works good on rubber parts too.

when I bought my machine used, I expected it to look like it was 10 years old and the fact that it wasn't painted up told me the owner wasn't trying to hide sin's.
