I wanted to increase the bucket roll back and roll forward of my home made front loader. I can increase one or the other with extension points where it connects to the boom arm or bucket cylinder. What I wanted to do is, if possible, is increase both so I have a ~240 deg sweep instead of the ~100 deg I have now.

I don't want to reinvent the wheel so if anyone already has a working version that I can copy. I have not been able to find one, or at least one that I could verify that would work. My verification is tracing it in my mind to see how it achieves the extra sweep.

Thanks

You need to add another linkage. Look up "3rd class lever".

As the other poster mentioned 3rd levers. Just be careful so that you don't over extend the ram or put to much leverage on the ram that isn't in line. You would end up blowing seals or bending the ram.

The position of the cyl connecting point on the bucket will determine the amount of angle achieved, and the amount of torque. High up on the bucket will give the most torque, low on the bucket will give you more angle. So there is a trade off. I would just tack some temp mounting points on the bucket and test it at different locations. You also do not want to angle it back to far so you don't dump stuff all over you. 180 degrees would be the most you would want to go vertically/max dump angle . The bottom of the bucket only needs to go from 180 degrees to say about 045 degrees. Why would you want 240 degrees of bucket movement?

Level bucket is at 90 degrees, full dump is at 180 degres, and about 45 degrees is a full load. For a total of 135 degrees.

Bottom of bucket is the reference point.

Look at the compound linkage of the FEL on Tractor like the Grand L series. These have the type of linkage that would help you problem. Here is a drawing of the type that I am talking about LA724. I am not sure that you would achieve the full range of movement that you desire though.

Like I said, I can't see it increasing the roll back and roll forward, but that's why I posed the question here. I'm going to prototype one out of wood to get the dimension right.

As far as the angles go, I may not be able to obtain the 240 deg, but I want to come close.

Thanks!

If you get that bucket up past about 45 degrees, you might have a load in your lap. There is just no logical reason for the 240 degrees of bucket movement. How about giving us a rough drawing for what you are trying to do.

Again, most buckets work/rollback from 45 degrees up and 45 degrees down.

I'm going to take some pictures this weekend.

I have also wanted and wished mine would have a bit more roll back to keep dirt and especially firewood in the bucket, instead of having to stack it inside. But yes, when raise up, it would surely be a problem with fall back.
Also it would be good when hauling liquids in the bucket.
