Inaugeration

A rose is a rose is a rose...
I've worn clear lens glasses since I was 6.
Just tryin to go off topic for fun...
I guess it's nice to experience something other than cynicism in people. These days its easy to be and to stay P.O'd. I like to start with small victories of the "you win, I win" variety. Then everyone might just get in the habit of winning.
Sort of the opposite of a 'zero sum game'.

LARRY, Thats one good thing about TBN, I have never been spammed by anyone because of being registerd. I received one e-mail from caver equipment, but that was because I has clicked on their site to look at something. I went and removed the cookie that they had put in my pc and I haven't heard from them again.

Larry:

I apologize to you and everyone else for the apparent association I drew between child pornographers and the NRA. The two are at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to intent and effect. It was a very poor choice to make that analogy.

Thanks Bill!

I'm glad you feel that way.
No problem here,...things don't always come out the way I intend them to either, when expressing strong feelings. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Jim,

Thanks for the feedback.
That's encouraging news about the "spam".
One more thing to like about TBN/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif !

Hi Chip,

As an Albertan, born in Calgary, raised in Northern Alberta and living just outside of Edmonton....I must say I completely agree with you on the "goodness of Albertans". We do tend to get complacent, and start seeing the flaws in our neighbors, and all the rest. But when I travel away and then come back home to Alberta I see the same thing you did. By and large they are really good people living here. I think a lot of it has to do with "life pace". We just realize that things should move a little slower than high speed and that there are lots of other folks around us we need to consider.

In fact, in an annual national tourism poll, Edmonton has won for a number of years as the "friendliest city to visit". Says a lot for its citizens I think.

Thanks for the good words. There are too few of those being said.

Chip & Kevin, I'd have to agree with you. Always found friendly and helpful folks every time I crossed western Canada enroute to and from Alaska. In '90, enroute to Alaska pulling a 5th wheel travel trailer in the rain at the south edge of Edmonton, I pulled one of the dumbest (and most regrettable) errors I guess I ever did. I changed lanes and didn't see a Plymouth in time that I ran off the road onto the shoulder. When I saw him in the mirror, I told my wife, "I'll bet he's furious and I don't blame him." I expected some fist waving, horn blowing, or signalling with one finger when he passed me, but he drove on by just like nothing had happened.

I agree. Years ago when I rode professional rodeo Calgary was my favorite rodeo next to Cheyenne Frontier Days and Pendleton Roundup. Great people and a very fun town and rodeo.

Kevin,
my wife, born in LA and lived 99% of her life in south Texas, was VERY impressed with Alberta. The only thing she didn't like was the cold ... but that, as with Bird, is easy to understand. When you see frezzing temps onc e every 10 years ... 4 feet of snow is rather daunting.
I rather thank that when I reire I'll become a "snowbird" ... the summer in Alberta (where it never gets above 90 degress, folks) and the winters at our place in Texas.

Wingnut - I apologized for my poor selection of analogies and I apologize again.

I don't want to debate.

And now I'll just go quitely back to the other threads....

Re: Inaugeration/NRA

WVBill,

Just want to say that in my opinion your apology was gracious and sufficient. We don't need to beat each other over-the-head here.
But this is one of those "hot-button" topics, and people may want to be heard on it. Please don't let that silence you... everybody's opinion deserves consideration! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

(would have sent this privately, but no e-address on "profile".)

Bill,
I wasn't looking for an apology, nor did your initial message require. I was just rtying to point out some things you may have missed, nor been aware of, not have considered. Etc.
As Larry said in his message: "Please don't let that silence you... everybody's opinion deserves consideration! " ... I couldn't agree more.
One of the things that I appreciate about this board and the people on it is the friendliness and comeraderie ... and I sure don't want to contribute to a change to that. I don't mind getting into hot button topics ... but not at the expense of creating solince where we now have worthy communications.
I am tryuly sorry you don't "want to debate" ... myself, I'm always interested in hearing what people who don't agree with me have to say ... because sometimes I find out I'm wrong (as in what makes water pipes burst) and sometimes I manage to impart some useful knowledge ... and dialogue is what keeps us a civilized nation.

Wingnut,

Thanks for comin'-back on "participation" .
I sure like the atitudes here, regardless of differences of opinion /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif!

There's some real "class" on this list.
