Importing and modifying a new mini excavator from China

/ Importing and modifying a new mini excavator from China #911
That's an interesting wrinkle. Normally, buying a container or more directly from the seller in Shandong, or indirectly thru Alibaba requires payment up front. If a seller in China directly consigns units to an auction in the US, and does not get their expected final bids, what happens? They lose a ton of money. I do not see them placing secret reserves, since that costs even more. I wonder what is going on there in TN.

Locally, I suspect (without evidence) that our local auction in Sacramento is directly dealing with maker(s) in China. It certainly could be another middleman doing the importing, however.

Market saturation is here.
In this instance they have a set up in place here in the US and there were other threads where this person mentions also shipping directly from their warehouse here in the states. Chinese personnel in an office here in the states setting up consignment deals with all the different auction houses.
There are even locals, not the big boys, that have these machines and equipment at their auctions monthly.
The amount of stuff coming over must be mind boggling if just this one auction house received 10 containers on consignment.

JOSH, you might be high bidder at $3-3.5K for one of those 1-1.3T minis, AGT or others. But something with a cab or 1.5T, or a 3-cyl diesel will likely be much higher. But prob under $10K.

Also check your local CraigsList and FBMP, since many of these auction units end up there.

Good luck.

Really wanting to stay under $10k. Would prefer 5-8k price range. ...

Most of what we have planned I could do manually if I had the time. Dad isn't in physical condition to do it manually anymore, but he can certainly operate controls of one of these. The mini-x is intended to be a time and back saver. A hydraulically assisted power shovel if you will.

Also FWIW, I do want a grapple, but not for picking up trees. It'll be used for loading limbs, brush, scrap metal, etc either onto a trailer or burn pile.
Just so long as you understand that these baby Ex's are real slow moving and have not much reach to them. I certainly would never run one near a pile being burned. For stumps I would recommend having a ripper attachment. In terms of thumbs go hydraulic.

I noticed you put a question mark after the Quick hitch in your first post. The quick hitch goes on the dipper pins in place of the bucket and allows for quicker bucket and attachment exchange. You need a 22mm wrench or socket to loosen or tighten it.

Depending on the work you intend to do you might find that renting or hiring out the big jobs is a better choice while leaving your baby ex for infrequent tasks.

That sucks. One thing that I wonder about is if Auction machines are of the same quality control as those sold directly by Agrotk Industrial. Your mention that they claim it is not one of theirs could be accurate in the sense although it comes out of the same factory in China Agrotk Industrial is not the importer to the US.

Auctions are dumping grounds for a lot of things.

Incidentally my Typhon came with several QC stickers on it (a green dot with QC Pass) including a numbered and hand initialed one for the B&S motor. Not that means much but it strikes me that someone felt it was important.
My honest opinion/speculation is the auction machines are rejects or over runs that are not inspected.Same importer.. Tiller- King in Texas.
I'm not trying to smear AGTs rep. As I said in a post way back in this thread, (" maybe my machine was built on training day").

Got it, but doubtful I'm going to be the high bidder at this point. I really want one of the diggits if I'm getting from this auction, but both of my bids have already been exceeded. One is up to 5K and the same bidder is high bid on the other at 2.5k, so stands to reason he'll probably go as high. 10k is my limit, but seeing as I am not in a rush to buy, 5k is about as high as I Want to go for this auction. There will be other opportunities in the future even if it means buying instead of bidding.

Will do on the CL and FBMP, but at prices I'm seeing so far at the auction, they will probably be listed higher than I am willing to pay.

Acution started at 8:30am. its around noon now and only about to hit lot 400. One AGT went across at lot 206 and sold for $5k. More than I want to spend to get one at auction. After fees it'll be the same price as buying one from AgroTK.

The Diggits and other AGTs around lot 1200, so looks like I've got a few hours. Think I'm going to go work on my truck if I can find a break in the rain and hopefully get back to the computer before these start.

Understood. Fortunately most of the places it will be used, not a lot of movement is required. Can get truck and trailer close to most of them.

I may not have included it in earlier post, but ripper is definitely desired. Fortunately I don't have to deal with the rocky soil I've seen some of you talk about. It's very sandy around here, but not much in the way of rocks like that.

There's a reason I said on a burn pile, instead of on a fire.

I had an idea of what a quick hitch was, but not sure how it worked or if it was worth it. I've since seen pictures of one on a tractor, looks like a good option, but not worth the upcharge for the local units I say with them. I don't think it's something that will make or break a sale and can probably be added to one that doesn't have it.

...Lots of words incoming. You've been warned....

I have considered both renting and hiring out the work.

With the quantity of use, it would be cheaper to buy than rent for mini or regular excavator. Since I mentioned buying a regular excavator (or backhoe for that matter) there, ignoring that it would cost twice the budget for buying mini excavator, after purchase we would have no way to transport it. My truck could likely handle pulling the load, but we don't have a trailer that could support the weight, and that would probnably add another 5-10K to the overall cost.

Hiring out the stump project (would actually be more of a land clearing and site prep project then) has been considered. I've gotten prices and that is part of why I'm not willing to go over 10k on purchase of a mini ex, any higher and I'd be better to hire out the work. Unfortunately there are factors of the job I was quoted that I do not like. Their plan was to push the trees over stump and all, which I don't have a problem with. The problem came from them not wanting to haul off the trees, but to stack and burn them on the property. I've got three acres, about two of them are planted pines and the quote was to clear all of them. One or two trees I wouldn't have a problem with. I'm removing way more than that. IMO, too many trees, not enough space, and too big of a risk for it not to be contained. I don't have the option to stay home and keep an eye on it for the duration of the burn, and it would be on me if it got out. I also don't like to be around pine when its burning, especially when it's green like this would be, and I'd be around it for days at best.

So yes, hiring it out has been considered, but then we wouldn't have a toy to play with. The stump removal/land clearing is part of a larger project and the expense of doing so would delay the rest of the project. I know I said my budget for excavator is 10k, but that's splitting the cost, hiring out the clearing would be all out of my pocket. I don't need the whole property cleared for the project, but would like to have it eventually. I could scale back the amount of work to be hired out to 1/2 or 1/4 of what it was going to be and do the rest myself over time, but doing so would make it more difficult for me to get rid of the trees on whats left.

Have you looked at the Kymron Ex's? I looked this morning at their website and they have dropped their prices since last I looked. They are also offering free shipping.

Have you got a link?

First I've seen the brand. When I googled it, the website I found did not say anything about free shipping and the sales link took me to a dealer that did not list it. Am liking some of the options I'm seeing for the price on the dealer site. If they were local I wouldn;t be worried about free shipping, but they are in Oklahoma and I'm in Georgia (need to ad that to profile) so shipping wouldn't be friendly. I do know a guy though.... My cousin live in SC and has inlaws over there, he spends a few months a year over there running trucks during harvest season. Maybe it could work out to pay him to bring one back if we could get timing right.

Must have been mistaken about the shipping. Thought I saw it mentioned somewhere but I also do not see it on the website when I just looked again. Sorry about that.

Thanks for checking. Some of the features combined with alleged third party parts compatibility and in counrty support definitely makes it an interesting option. Standard hydraulic thumb is a plus and side swing boom might be a worth while upgrade, don't think I have much use for the adjustable track where I'll be using. Still, even the base model with swing boom is going to exceed desired price range after shipping. Will keep an eye on them though, maybe they'll pop up with a sale and/or free shipping at some point.

Never hurts to call and see if you can negotiate the price. Especially now with all the competition on these little units.

When I bought my Typhon I used the Ebays make an offer and got my unit for $600 off the asking price with both a hydraulic thumb and the quick hitch plus free shipping from California to my place here in Arkansas.
