I have a Kubota but it also has the ability to dump the hydraulic fluid during filter change. However, if I put my shop vac on the filler port and pull a partial vacuum it overcomes the atmospheric pressure and I lose very little beyond what's in the filter. I've also read that if you plug the hydraulic vent line you will dribble out very little fluid. Have the new filter ready and move fast to help reduce loss, too.

For my next hydro filter change. I lost over 5 gallons. Stuff is too damned expensive to treat like that.
Good thing I have a dust collection system in my woodshop because I needed all that sawdust in a hurry

Got any recommendations?

This one looks like a contender
Get a larger drain pan. I always change the fluid when I change the filters anyway and each of my tractors take almost 15 gallons. In my view, changing the filters and not the fluid is an exercise in worthless.

That would do the trick. and any atmosphere entrained in the oil will outgas as soon as it gets hot.

more than one tractor and 15 gallons @. It would be well worth it to send a sample to a lab to see if it is breaking down. Why change good oil?

The shop vac thing is ideal. I use it when situations suggest.

Recreational fluid changes are a real thing. Feels good sort of deal.

Remember when car engine oil was changed every 3K miles, and filters every other oil change?

My how time flys.

I've never used a shop vac to pull a vacuum on a gearbox because, it you have a weak seal, you'll suck the seal lips in and it will leak. Both my M's are older. I cannot take that chance.
