I have a Ford 1220 4x4. It's 14 hp or so.
I'm thinking about switching to a Ford 1600 2x4 that is 23hp or so..
The 1220 is 1992 and the 1600 is 70s.

I just don't like the hydrostatic trans on the 1220 and could use more horsepower.

Am I just crazy for going to an older model?

Both have loaders. The 1220 has a belly mower, but it needs rebuilt and I have never used it.

I need to sell one of them and the 1220 is the one I like least.
I've been trying to figure out a fair price.

Should I sell both and just use the money for a slightly larger model?
I need to move a lot of dirt and gravel in the next couple of months. I could sell one or both and get a skidsteer instead.

Anyone have an opinion they are willing to share on value or which I should try to end up with?

If your needs are mostly for moving dirt and gravel, a skidsteer will be more capable than either of the Fords. FELs on tractors are at best a compromise. Unlikely the proceeds from selling the Fords will cover the cost of a fully functional skidsteer.

If your primary use for a tractor is moving dirt and gravel the skid steer may be your best option. If you have other tasks in mind the skid steer may not be appropriate for them. Perhaps you could rent a skid steer or have someone do that work for you.

Two wheel drive tractors with a loader are frustration makers. Even ballast on the three point doesn’t seem to help much.
