IH 434 stuck in third gear

My 1968-70? IH 434 is stuck in third. It seems the shifter should be in neutral with play moving side to side but it is in third. When I shift to other gear the tractor will not move and will stall. I was going to take off the shifter housing and then I realized I have to remove the hydraulic valve housing because the bolt hits the hydraulic housing. I am looking at the this properly? If I do have to remove the hydraulic housings is there any this I should be away of? Also when I set up the shifter lever on the gears is there anything I need to do? Thanks

I have a similar gearbox related problem (1 and R stuck) and also realized I can't get the top lid off due to the bolt under the hydraulic block. Any success?

I will let you know in a couple weeks. I had remove hydraulic housing with a chain block . Aligned the forks on the gears, thought I had it, lifted housing up to put gasket sealer on it. Tried it and was stuck in reverse. Returned home and I will try again. What a pain

once you remove the cover and shifter linkage/shaft u have to move the slides in the transmission to neutral ( i usually do this with a small pry bar or large screwdriver ) which will remove the tractor from being in whatever gear it is stuck in, once you do that the tractor should move easily - test by rocking back n forth or pulling on it with another vehicle - once you verify that, put the shift linkage/shifter back on and it should be back to normal. Usually this happens as a result of worn slots/shifter rod
