... it's not a "belief system" it's an accepted scientific view, tested and questioned by numerous people over many many years who actually listened and understood while they got their education. At some point little caveats will be sorted out, but all in all, there's observation of an effect, and experiments conducted to tease out the finer details.

There is of course some science which has been stretched or just being parroted incorrectly by people who don't know any better - even if they managed to get their degree, little different to your situation.

It was not many years ago that the "Belief System" DICTATED that the earth was flat,,
If you tried to "preach" that your concept was a globe shaped earth, you would be stoned to death,
THAT is a FACT.

So, the Belief System sucks,,, accepted scientific views suck,,
I got a college education, and I was taught how to understand a concept,, I will not try to spout my beliefs here.
It would take too long, and 50% of the readers would disagree,,,
I will say I know better than to simply accept Scientific Views,,

BX, what I meant by' decaying', (bad choice of words?) as in we'd lose the tides as the Moon drifts away without a tractor beam to compensate. Anyway not the same as a space junk 'decaying' orbit and not forever revolving around our Earth like the Sun, the stars, and our perception of all things. Werewolves would have to hide out in their human form with Bigfoot and the unicorns, perhaps awaiting a full Jupiter.

btw, the Dunning-Kruger effect is demonstrated daily in our culture, if only since 1999. Of course if psychology is some kind of science then it's complete bunk. Maybe we should recognize that the true experts have died long ago taking greater knowledge with them and leaving us to stumble on in our ignorance of what goes on around us. There's always Scientology to help us connect the dots.

I don’t mean to dispute this, as it probably is a big factor. However, tread style and depth play a big factor also. The best tread for dry surfaces is a racing slick; yet they also will be the first to break free when it starts raining.

Does anyone recognize any of the characters in this clip? I was wondering also, with modern film technology, could someone have fabricated the clip? I didn’t notice any footnote of where the clip originated. It would have likely been 8mm in its original format?

Neil, Buzz, and Michael Collins all looked like they didn't want to be at the Apollo 11 press conference after the supposed greatest feat of mankind. Yeah right.

Way back when,, I had a professor that taught a class called "Vehicular Safety",
and it was a junior level Engineering elective, that was designed to be an "easy A grade".

As an Engineering elective, many were required to take such a class,
this professor decided to use the class to create safer drivers. He taught things that could save you in an automobile.
He designed the class to be an easy A to attract the most students, and create safer drivers.
ALL the football players were ALWAYS in this class,,

Well one of the things he taught,, was the speed at which an auto will hydroplane.

NASA did extensive research into this,, and found a simple calculation would determine the speed to hydroplane.

I could type for a day, telling all the professor showed us to prove his point, but, it boils down to this.

"A car will hydroplane at ten times the square root of the tire pressure."

Yea, it will be plus, or minus a little,, but, it will be close.

So, if you have 25psi in your tires, expect to hydroplane at 50MPH
At 36psi, expect to hydroplane at 60MPH
If you want to drive 70MPH,, on rain slicked roads,, you better pump up your tires to 49psi..

Most airplanes have crazy high tire pressures,, not to hold up the plane,,
the tire pressure is high, so that the plane will not hydroplane when landing in the rain storm.

Sure, YOU got away driving at a high speed, at lower tire pressure,,
BUT,, that will not always be the case,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

you forgot to mention this is taking in consideration the same tire the same vehicle.

The formula assumes "...the water depth exceeds the capability of the tread design to remove water."

There are two main reasons for this

• A tire with lower inflation pressure has more contact area, and it, therefore, takes less pressure to lift the tire off the pavement.
• A tire with lower inflation pressure presents a slightly concave profile to the pavement. This causes water trapped under the tire to be directed towards the tire's center line rather than away from it.

This goes back to the original thread about UFOs, but; has anybody here seen one? When I was a teenager my siblings and I were walking down our camp road with friends, when a light appeared from behind us. We started to get out of the road, assuming it was a car; but as we turned to look at it we saw a huge orange orb descending from the sky, as bright as a full moon. Apparently a lot of people saw it because on the news the following day they said that it wasn’t a meteor... yet that’s all that we ever heard about it. I’m sure that there was an explanation given sometime yet since I don’t recall, that makes it a true unidentified flying object.

Lack of imagination.

That was what one of the astronauts described during the Congressional hearings as the reason Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Ed White died.

They didn't think about what a pure oxygen atmosphere acts like at 15psi when anything flammable like the early use of Nylon (Velcro) burns. NASA learned from the lack of imagination, made needed changes and moved forward.
