If you're standing on the sand dunes along Lake Michigan, you can see about 20 miles to the horizon.

If you're standing on the top floor of the Willis Tower, you can see about 50 miles to the horizon, 4 states. Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin.

20+50=70.

It's only 60 miles from St. Joseph, Michigan to Chicago.

I have seen the temperature inversion that causes the mirage where you can see the entire skyline floating above the horizon several times. We even saw it twice where it was floating upside down.

You really can't see the inconsistent claims from the actor Neil Tyson that you can't see the curve from 168,000 ft and your claims that the Chicago skyline is hidden beyond the "curve" of the earth?

I would like to see someone attack it from an anthropological point of view...meaning that the characteristics that enabled humans to reach this point in their evolution, must have application to aliens. Example. Why is the human hand so nimble, and why do we have such dexterity? i disagree what made us make the leap of evolution was us adapting to our environment when the climat change and the dense forest change to plains we started to walk upright on two legs and that free our hands to be able to carry thing and use tools to reach high fat/proteins food that made us smarter to change our environment… standing upright was the key … our first discovered upright ancestor is called “Lucy” lived 3.2 million years ago.

Dr Tyson did not say one can or can't see over the horizon from 186,000 ft but suggested that it was like standing on the porch and not getting the same perspective on the planet's curvature as someone thousands of miles above the Earth as in orbit around it.

Spin it the way you want to, but the loopholes you seem to find in science are just about denying what you haven't seen with your own eyes. Keep the blinders on and continue to support your beliefs by ignoring what spiritual religions commonly accept. I wonder if you're one of those who thinks scientists don't go to Christian churches or believe in and pray to a higher power, though many do and are welcomed there.

btw, until the 17th Century people thought human reproduction, all birth, was spontaneous. Then we were fooled with claims of fertilization and we still buy into it. Day and night must either be from the Sun orbiting the Earth or our planet spinning like a coin.

This will all be better understood when our orbiting vehicles show pictures of Earth's rim and the walls that keep the oceans from spilling into space. I'm curious as to what the bottom of our flat planet looks like. No flat-Earther expedition there has even been planned, much less accomplished.

Yet you say the Chicago skyline is beyond the curve from the shores of Lake Michigan.
