It looks like I'm right in the worst part of the path again. Sure wish I had insurance. I got a generator but no telling how long 5 gallons of gas will last me if (when) the power goes off. I will surely lose my home phone and cable during the storm too. Hope the cell towers stay up. All stores have been closed or out of everything today but I always keep my pantry supplied with a week of food and if I have to BBQ it won't be too bad.

When Katrina hit 16 years ago I was 60 and was able to cut up and get rid of 90 trees that fell and put on 5 roofs by myself. Today, I'm not up to all that work so I hope it isn't nearly that bad. Between the last storms we have had and the new subdivisions going up there are not nearly as many trees around to help break up the wind and the wind is my only worry. The area around my house never floods.

Godspeed...Know you would rather be watching your Saints than sitting and waiting for possible disaster...I've been there...the waiting /anticipation is horrible...especially if the power goes off from the initial first bands...

Are your windows boarded ? (makes it horribly dark inside with no power...I know)...

To any and all in harms way...

Just a tip...keep some tools and materials handy for inside repairs in case any windows get blown in...it happens...

Praying the storm is much less than expected...don't take unnecessary risks and keep yourself and family as safe as possible...

Hunker down Tally!

Perhaps that storm will turn, remember Nash Roberts? I wish he was still here because he’d know.

One of the last storms I faced back home, me and and childhood friend of mine met a couple of traveling nurses from KC. They were freaked out about the eye hitting the city the next evening. They asked what we were doing in preparation.

“We’re going to call our favorite bars and see who has the best drink specials.”

They thought we were kidding, at first. They spent 3 days with us haha

Which just shows, there's some good in every storm.

It's times like this that make me wish I lived in a condominium somewhere with nothing to worry about. With 20 acres, lots of trees, barns, outbuildings, horses and other animals, new fences, new roofs and just finished remodeling the house, there is too much to worry about with a cat 5 coming this way.
The worst part is that even if you have money to hire a roofer if you lose your roof, it will be impossible to get a roofer and materials for over a month or two.

Just light winds right now but they are picking up slowly. The next 24 hours are going to be very hectic.

During Katrina I sat by my window and watched the trees falling down, parts of the roof blowing off, fences blowing down and plants being destroyed. It is awful disheartening to think I may soon be watching all this being destroyed again.

I wrote a much longer reply a while ago and then the electricity went off and wiped it out so I am making this short before the power goes off again.

I would say with this storm they will purposely take the power grid down to avoid unneccessary issues.
