My wife is trying to restore/change some photos. In this particular picture she is trying to crop out the other 2 people and keep her grandma (sitting on the car). What she is running into is we can't identify the car. We've asked everyone we know (including her grandma) and posted on a couple of other sites, but so far no luck. I said finally that I would take it to the experts and we would have an answer by Christmas. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Can anyone tell us the Year, Make, and Model of the car? We have found some pictures of a couple of Chevys - but they just don't look right the lights don't match up. Maybe there were different options. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My guess would be a Buick, maybe 54 to 56?

Looks like a 54 oldsmobile to me 54 olds /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Notice turn signal under headlight in your picture and the rest of the trim with prominent oval bumperette style bullets...

Ding, Ding, Ding. I think we have a winner!!!!!

I was just getting ready to post another picture that she just found. We are pretty sure it is the same car. The last letter looks to be an 'E'. I'll go ahead and attach it

Thanks everyone for your responses. I keep telling everyone this is the best site on the Internet. And everyone proves it over and over. I was expecting it to take a day - not a half hour. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now, I'm confused. I see what you are saying. But looking at the original photo it looks like there might be something in the middle of the bumperettes like the '54. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I agree, Jim, and you might also notice that the hood is considerably higher than the fenders on a '53 and that doesn't appear to me to be the case with the old photo. When I was a teenager, the '54 and '55 Oldsmobiles were my favorite sedans. I got to drive a lot of them because I serviced them, but couldn't afford one. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Changed my mind. It's a 54. I couldn't find any pictures of a 53 that had OLDSMOBILE on the hood, but I did find a couple of pictures of a 54 that had bumperettes like the the 53.

OK, I think we are all in agreement it is a '54. She has started searching for pictures of them from the front to "replace" the original one. Just like restoring a real old car. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Wow, Jim. I thought you were going to show a picture of a really old car when you posted the buick. Heck, I think they were starting to put air condiitioning on cars in 1954. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Here's a picture of my Mom standing beside a really old car. I think I even have a photo somewhere with a car that has wooden spoke wheels. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

( they were starting to put air condiitioning on cars in 1954 )

My parents' first air-conditioned car was a '53 Buick Super that they bought in '57.

( a car that has wooden spoke wheels )

I have an uncle in Grand Prairie who still has a '26 Chrysler roadster in the garage. It has wood spoke wheels, wood floorboards inside and wood running boards.

But I can't identify the car in the picture with your mother.

Wow, that is an old car. I'm not much help in indentifying that one either.

One of these days Monica and I would like to find some type of "old" car to restore. Not anything in particular, just a car to tinker with and show.

BTW, Monica hasn't been able to find a pic of the 54 Buick from the front. Would anybody happen to know where a pic from the front is located?

Thanks Egon and Bill. I'll set Monica loose on these to see what she can come up with. If she ever gets this picture restored, I'll post it so that you guys can see the outcome.

BTW Egon, nice car. Is it yours? Looks like lots of trophies to be proud of there. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
