I have several of these berries which I thought were elderberries. They look similar to elderberries, but the elderberries are rime now and these are still bluish green, and have a hard green pit im the middle. They are also larger than the elderberries, have a clear juice, and the leaves are a little different. The leaves have smooth edges and the elderberries are a little saw-toothed.

So heres pics of the berries and leaves.

Here are some known pics of the elderberry growing about 5ft away from the previous berries. Notice the leaves are a little different.

A comparison of the berries.

Are these a different type of elderberry??

Are they just @ different stages of ripeness??

Or a totally different berry???

Those are no way related to elderberry.

Looks close to saskatoon or blue berry, but not quite.

I have looked at the huckleberries and I dont think it is them. I have yet to find a pic online after about an hour of searching that looks like these. The closest I have fould were the blue elderberries. But the green pit in the middle makes me wonder.

These grow just like elderberries. Starting as a flower, then changing to all green berries. When the berries start turning, they start drooping. And the way they grow in clusters is similar the elderberries. I actually thought thats what they were, but after waiting a week for them to ripen to the blackish color, with no change, I started looking. I couldn't find anything so I figured I'd post pics and see if you guys could lay a finger on it.

Here are some more pics of the same type of plant/bush that is in post 1.

These are in the back and only get morning sun so they arent as ripe as the ones I posted earlier that get full sun. But I assure you they are the same.

Hopefully these will help out some more

Very close to white dogwood, which have more pronounced ribs/veins in the leaves. I have lots of white dogwood, just looked closely this evening.

Yep. I just did a google images search for both dogwood berries and "dogwood flower cluster" And I thing it is indeed a dogwood.

The flower cluster pics look just like they did about a month ago. But the flowers are long gon or I'd post pics.

I thought dogwoods grew as trees. These kinda grow in clusters like a giant bush?? Maybe thats how they grow in the wild??

Does anyone else agree to them being dogwoods???

I have a white dogwood that is about 16-18 feet tall. Most are much shorter, around 4-5 feet. The tall one was doing so well I released it by cutting off a couple maples that where starting to over-reach it and shade it out.

What I have seen is the main stems die off after about 4-5 years, but new stems come up from the ground beside them. I think mine is really more shrub than tree.

The birds must eat the berries, like yours, mine don't stay long on the clusters. I also have many volunteers coming up along the trails. I am guessing that is the work of song birds. Eating the berries and pooping the seeds.

No, no pics of the flower. At least not until next spring-early summer.

But going to google images and searching "dogwood flower cluster" results a to of pics that look just like them when the flowers are on.

like these http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3655/3560212534_8c657a1c7d.jpg

Not to mention the distinctive leaves. The way the veins curve and are very visable. Looks just like the ones in my pics.

Looks like some of our shrub or hedge type dogwoods. There are several varieties. They are quite a bit different than dogwood trees.
