It seems strange, why would a new one ship without the bucket?
The original dealer my have rented it out and the bucket looked used.

For me the 7 hours would not be a problem, but I would have looked over the machine even before the bucket arrived.

I would be upset with the dealer for delivering a machine without cleaning it up new or used.

They’re always sold without a bucket. You have to buy the bucket as well as other accessories like a quick coupler and thumb separate.

You’re right. That machine is brand new. Even the rocks wedged in the tracks are brand new. Spotless

My machine actually was delivered with clean tracks but this is what it looked like immediately when I drove it off the trailer in the gravels. It don’t think anyone disagrees that the dealer should have had the machine power washed pre delivery but I see zero evidence that machine is “used”.

Ok. I thought it was steel. That’s why I posed it as a question. I’m not familiar with that particular part

It doesn’t seem like you’re very familiar with machines at all.
Rust on the exhaust manifold.
Grease on the grease fittings.
“Dents” on the heat shield that’s actually a flexible material not steel.
A gravel stuck in the tracks. I doubt they carried the machine around the dealers lot with a forklift.
The breather cap that’s held on with spring clamps is one detent out of level. Do you have any more complaints? Maybe they dribbled fuel around the fuel tank when they topped it off? It looks like they didn’t include a plastic bag over the seat either. I think pretty much everyone agrees the dealer should have had the machine power washed pre delivery but that’s really the only issue here.

I didn’t say anything about the exhaust manifold. I mentioned this painted cast bracket. Already bright rust around the nut and surface rust along the length of it.

When I buy a new machine, I look for crap like this, and it influences my decision.
We get it, you obviously don’t care about the condition of a new machine, as you say, it’ll get worn and dirty in time anyway….but some of us do. It’s our money.
The condition speaks of the build, and it speaks of the care ( lack of )of the people selling it to you. They couldn’t be bothered to set the air cleaner cover straight ( why were they in there in the first place?) or to clean the machine.
It’s presented and delivered like a rental.
Surely you can see the OP’s point, if on no other reason, than at least the principle, that they delivered it like this?

I don't use my equipment that much, my LX3310 turns 5 years old next month, and has about 140 hours on it.. This KX will see a similar life during my ownership.

If the dealer had just been transparent, I absolutely could have dealt with that.. But they weren't. Zero concession was offered to make it right, and zero contact from the dealer since they picked it up.

I've already located another machine 120 miles away.. I actually got a better deal not that it really matters.. So I'm confident everything will end up just fine..

.
Except your relationship with the local dealer ....just saying, ;)

I don’t disagree that the machine should have been cleaned. I don’t think anyone disagrees about that. Maybe call the dealer and ask them to send out a mobile pressure washer or return it to their shop and do that. Blowing up and canceling the deal over a little dirt is pretty drastic. I still stick to my original belief that this machine isn’t “used”. That machine was probably delivered to the dealer with 2-3 hours from the factory and set on the dealers lot and idled for a few more hours. I seriously doubt the 0.0 hours the salesman claimed was ever correct. There’s absolutely no way that machine was rented out for a day or sent to the job for a demo. If you don’t believe me I’ll let you come run my machine for the day and see if you can not get any dirt inside the tracks, scratch the blade, scratch anything else on the machine, get way more dust on the machine or get dirt on the floor mats. Btw the engine mounting brackets aren’t painted on my machine either.

Are you suggesting a dealership/salesman does a Dealer Exchange w/o ultimately knowing the hours and condition of what they are receiving, and that they never put eyes on that KX and thought shipping it like that to their customer would be OK and unnoticed? If you were the salesman would you have done that? It appears you would have.

When confronted, the saleman instantly said it looked like a Demo machine. The speed of his reply made me immediately think he was expecting the conversation and knew that was the case. There was no "we appreciate you as a long-time customer, what can we do to make this right?",nothing, just crickets...

They probably have ~200 pieces of new equipment on their lot, I've walked their lot dozens of times, every machine is clean and nothing like the condition of what I received.

You say it could have been delivered with 2-3 hours and idled ~5 hours, under exactly what conditions would a new, open cab machine need to sit and idle for 5 hours during the Spring/Summer? KX018s are relatively hard to find, many/most dealers don't even have one in stock and they don't sit on the lot long before being sold. My dealer had to DX this one from a dealer in another state ~3 hours away.

My return had zero to do with the 7 hours alone (though the salesman 2 feet away and in front of the display turned and told me there were no hours, and yes, in retrospect I should have told him to get out of the seat and let me see for myself, that I don't trust them after all these years, so that's on me ). My return had nothing to do with the dirt alone. I don't care about a few hours or a little dirt or a few scratches.

My return had everything to do with the sum of the delivery experience in its entirety and that they knew exactly what they were shipping, were not transparent about their product, and didn't care. I have never seen a new machine in that condition on their lot in 36 years, ever. I waited for the machine, and it's my money. I told them to come pick it up. No blowup, no cussing, but I wasn't going to accept it.. Just now retired at age 70 I don't know how many more pieces of new equipment I have left in me, but I knew it wasn't going to end with the machine pictured above.

Obviously you're OK with all of that and that's fine, so you just do you.....

I've moved on and have 100% confidence the next one I'm ordering will be just fine and that I'll be satisfied..

Good luck...

So I’m picky about my cars but I’m a car guy. I’m sort of picky about my pickup truck but I also realize it’s a tool. My tractor, I’m picky about the maintenance. Dust dirt and mud, I just don’t worry about it.

I’m going to go along with a lot of others and say I’d have accepted the machine as is but it does look like those 7 hours could have been real use, hard to say. They should have offered you something, a free service, $500, something. Did you ask?

Howdy,

Nope, I didn't ask and the dealer didn't offer any remedy so it is what it is.. I'd rather absorb the delay and start over fresh and have a good experience..

thanks.

1. This guy was interested in the shiny, not just the function, and that's his right.

2. Everyone is treating him as if all that mattered to him were the way the machine worked. What he wants is his business, and he was told he was getting a new machine, which is not what he got. He has a right to be annoyed. Some guys are happy with ugly wives as long as they provide good service. Some aren't. People are different.

3. People who weren't present when he made the deal or talked to the dealer about his complaints are basically contradicting him as if they were there. That makes no sense.

If your offering I’ll try the Pantera on for size and if that doesn’t work out I’ll take the GT350 as long as it’s a Hertz black and gold. :)

I've never bought a new Mini Excavator, but I've bought a lot of 'brand new' cars in my past. I've yet to ever bought one with 0.00 miles on it. Actually, if if I did run across one, that in itself would bother me a bit. That would indicate that I was actually buying a 'pig in a poke', i.e. blind sided.
Your money, your decision. Right or wrong only one opinion counts here, and it's not mine.

That machine is new. It's just been sitting on a dusty dealer lot. Every machine I looked at in the past 30 years, they tell me to run it around the lot and try it out. The last one I tried the lot was muddy from rain, and tracks got dirty.

That grease zerk pic tells me they at least put grease in it. Hell, the blade still has all the paint on it.

Why are most of you bashing him for not accepting w/e the dealer decided to send? Wherever that machine came from, the dealership should have been completely embarrassed and apologetic about delivering "new" in any condition other than complete, clean and serviced ready to work.
The owners, sales, service and delivery all skipped the fact this "new" piece of equipment wasn't ready to be delivered.

The OP isn't pissed at the machine, the dealer experience screwed the whole deal.

It was serviced. Most of the grief here is over the grease around the pins.

If it was completely serviced, it would have been given a bath.
I might be wrong but for the difference in 0 percent financing (which is now gone) and regular price the OP could have given the machine a bath himself and be money ahead.

Could have but shouldn't have to. When was the PDI done? Last week, last month, never or was it a rental that was pulled to deliver?
Maybe its an age difference or just a difference in the world's rights and wrongs. There certainly is a difference between the buying crowd where few want to know what is the total cost and most just ask "how much is the payment".
