Waitress: Here’s your fillet mignon and baked potato with sour cream , and salad dinner you ordered.

The OP: Send it back! That’s not what I wanted. Looks like someone already chewed it up.

Tractor by Net peanut gallery: What an entitled, baby the OP was. It’s gonna get combed and mixed up in his stomach like that anyway in 10 minutes. Just pay for it crybaby…

These responses are funny. Some saying it isn't a big deal, others saying you should have accepted it and tried to bargain a price reduction. My two cents, new is new, a demo is used, used is accepting she isn't a virgin anymore. If it's my money I expect what I pay for to be just as I ordered, or someone else can have it as they aren't rare. Would you want a brand new c8 zr1xt with 300 miles on it and obvious tire wear? Not if I am paying 190k plus "expenses". The privilege of losing 40k driving off the lot was I am going to break in the seat, engine and ruin some tires.
Apples to oranges.
300 miles is probably the equivalent of 30+ hrs.

I totally understand why the OP is dis-appointed. I look at all items I buy the same way he does.
If I think I am purchasing something new, it should be delivered to look factory new. If the salesman tells me zero hours, it should be delivered with an amount very close to that. Now, if I made a deal and got a significant discount for a gently used item that I could live with, that is on me. I don,t care if it is a manure spreader, or a brand new tractor. To me, new is new, and used is used, I don,t care if others think it is like new or not, since I am the one stroking the cheque, only my opinion matters. If a dealer delivered that item to me in the condition it arrived in, it wouldn,t of made it off of their trailer. Again, I totlly understand why the OP is pissed. The dealer that delivered that mess should be ashamed and make it totally right, by delivering a brand spanking new machine, ASAP.

At your age you don't need the aggravation. I glad you got it resolved. Everyone has an opinion but yours is the only one that counts. You put yours out to the public and there are many different reactions good and disagreeable ones. It's a homerun for Tractor By Net.

Let me get this right, Would you have accepted that machine as 'new' in that condition? If so I'll provide the contact info and you can buy it.

The dealer didn't go out of his way LOL, he checked local inventory and made a call. It happens every day...

That dealer has 100+ machines on their lot, every one looks new, is clean and likely has virtually no hours.. They represented that KX as new.

A good, honest dealer would have had me come in and look at the machine, discuss its prior use and condition and allow me to make an informed decision. They chose to attempt to hide the facts and ship it to me like that. The sales guy put the key in, turned to me and literally stated the machine had no hours on it.. Hmm....

.
Having worked a new car dealership, a 'new' car that's been demoed is considered a new car since it's never been titled. I'm thinking the dirt on the machine may be rain that dried prior to delivery.

Are you suggesting a dealership/salesman does a Dealer Exchange w/o ultimately knowing the hours and condition of what they are receiving, and that they never put eyes on that KX and thought shipping it like that to their customer would be OK and unnoticed? If you were the salesman would you have done that? It appears you would have.

When confronted, the saleman instantly said it looked like a Demo machine. The speed of his reply made me immediately think he was expecting the conversation and knew that was the case. There was no "we appreciate you as a long-time customer, what can we do to make this right?",nothing, just crickets...

They probably have ~200 pieces of new equipment on their lot, I've walked their lot dozens of times, every machine is clean and nothing like the condition of what I received.

You say it could have been delivered with 2-3 hours and idled ~5 hours, under exactly what conditions would a new, open cab machine need to sit and idle for 5 hours during the Spring/Summer? KX018s are relatively hard to find, many/most dealers don't even have one in stock and they don't sit on the lot long before being sold. My dealer had to DX this one from a dealer in another state ~3 hours away.

My return had zero to do with the 7 hours alone (though the salesman 2 feet away and in front of the display turned and told me there were no hours, and yes, in retrospect I should have told him to get out of the seat and let me see for myself, that I don't trust them after all these years, so that's on me ). My return had nothing to do with the dirt alone. I don't care about a few hours or a little dirt or a few scratches.

My return had everything to do with the sum of the delivery experience in its entirety and that they knew exactly what they were shipping, were not transparent about their product, and didn't care. I have never seen a new machine in that condition on their lot in 36 years, ever. I waited for the machine, and it's my money. I told them to come pick it up. No blowup, no cussing, but I wasn't going to accept it.. Just now retired at age 70 I don't know how many more pieces of new equipment I have left in me, but I knew it wasn't going to end with the machine pictured above.

Obviously you're OK with all of that and that's fine, so you just do you.....

I've moved on and have 100% confidence the next one I'm ordering will be just fine and that I'll be satisfied..

Good luck...
The salesman must have sold used cars before starting at an equipment dealer. I expect used cars sales men to lie, so I never trust them. My first Kubota sales man lied to me once, I never talked to him again and even brought it up to the owner. Said 'If i can't trust YOUR rep, whats that say about your dealership?

What I see in your pictures is a little dirtiness from 7 hours of use. Personally, seeing a little grease on items that should be greased at least daily is assurance that it was greased as it should have been. The other pics of dirt and dust... well if you think that looks like a 20 year old machine's engine compartment then I hope your planning on your machine being a garage queen. These things aren't for show, they're to do work. Dirt work. They're going to get dirty and dusty.
Now... having said all that I agree you were not properly informed. It looks to me like a demo unit that someone tried for a day, and that should have been clearly communicated from the salesman. And the machine should have been cleaned before delivery. You are probably correct about the bucket... the paint was slightly worn from 7 hours of use and the dealer wouldn't be able to sell it as new. So my take on this is your dealer definitely let you down, especially considering your history with them. But on the other side, most buyers of a machine like this are contractors and a little dust and dirt and some grease on the grease zerks would not be an issue. Its an excavator, not a corvette. Dust, dirt, and grease is going to happen on day 1 anyway. I'm not trying to beat you up... it's your money and you are entitled to your standards, but I kind of think you cut your nose off despite your face on this one since another machine is so hard to find. Again, not trying to beat you up at all, but you asked for the feedback.

incomplete unit? so how many hrs does it take to complete it?
might have had a few hrs getting it dialed in by the dealer.
I suspect a few hrs to move it around, from factory to the countless lots to get to you.

when they said zero did you expect litteteally zero?

look at the blade in the front... not seeing a single scratch. if it was a demo unit it looks to be virtual move and back and forth vs digging a ditch.

I think you focused on expecting zero hrs on a machine that has to move eventually to get to you.

I would have called the sales person and expressed so.... when you said zero was it zero?
and reason to not deliver a nice-looking pressure washed unit that had been greased and ready?
