I wonder if you can repair this yourself? I crashed my Mini and found out you can not repair it yourself. You have to mail it back to DJI to be fixed. That was a deal breaker for me...

I would love it for the entire two minutes it would take for me to crash it. When they build one that can fly itself for a price I can afford, I'm all over it.

I'd NEVER own a DJI anything because of the mandatory and built in Geo Fencing.

As an adult and holder of a FAA drone pilot's license, I can differentiate between restricted air space and non restricted.

I own a pair of Autel's. Neither have any Geo Fencing built into their computer modules.

DJI produces some nice drones and of you could buy them minus the Geo fencing, I'd probably be flying them instead of Autel.

I use them for crop management and neither of mine has the now built into DJI, maximum ceiling restriction either. I could (illegally) fly mine anywhere at any altitude as well, including above the clouds, You won't with a DJI drone. I believe the current altitude limit is 400 feet above the surface from which you took off from.

Drones aren't difficult to fly today, they all have built in return to home features and obstacle avoidance (detection) hardware and software. I fly mine with the controller coupled to my Lenovo Tablet and fly it in FPV constantly.

I started out with a pocket drone some years back that was less than 100 bucks. I had the same crash cringe as everyone else has. I learned on it. I actually still have it, you can fly it in the house if you want to. Makes a heck of a cat toy.

I might add that Autel's aren't cheap but like anything, you get what you pay for.

I bought $100.00 drone from Wal-Mart. In it's maiden flight it took off down the road and I never saw it again. :-(

short of propellers, there is not much your going to be able to fix on your own.

That sometimes happens with cheap ones. With my less than 100 buck Tello mini pocket drone, it's always line of sight flight and no farther than a 250 foot radius from where I'm standing or sitting. The Tello (which has a DJI brain box) comes with 4 batteries (Li-Ion) as well as a usb pluggable charging dock, prop guards and extra props and best part is it needs no controller, you fly it with the Tello App on your cell phone. The Tello won't fly any farther than a 125 foot line of sight from you (250 foot radius). it has a fixed camera no gimbal mount but the video is great. I recommend them which isn't something I do with a DJI product.

Air time is somewhat limited because the motors are conventional, not brushless 10 minutes max but it will perform acrobatics and you can launch it and land it in your open palm.

Fun little (cheap) drone to learn on.

I don't like FPV goggles either. I much prefer my Lenovo tablet with a sunshade on it.

Far as drones being fast, that all depends on your attack angle in horizontal flight. All drones have limited vertical travel rates. Even the little Tello will scoot of your attack angle is severe.

Keep in mind of you have to send it on for repairs they will charge you labor plus parts. I tend to fly in safe mode most of the time. My Autel's have what is called Ludacris mode which is balls to the wall mode for stunt and competition flying. Not for me, things happen way too fast.

One thing I really like about the Autel's is the range of reception. Both of mine will fly out horizontally to at least 5 miles from the take off point so long as there are no RF obstructions and you maintain a steady altitude. According to FAA regs, it's supposed to be line of sight flight, I guess Autel feels you can see it at 5 miles (maybe with bino's you can...lol) The return to home feature also works at maximum range. The Autel will force a return to home when it sense the battery capacity is nearing the point of 'no return'.

Oversized (poster on here) also has an Autel and he flies his regularly. Hope he chimes in, he's a very experienced drone pilot as well.

There are a couple good forums for drone pilots as well. Autel Drone Pilots is one and so is DJI Drone Pilots. Lots of good stuff on both.

In my case, the Gimble broke, $100 for a new one but the serial number did not match so DJI disabled it so the new one would not work. I return the whole unit for a refund - will never own another one.
