That fits in there pretty nice, looks really good. Did you have to make that manifold hieght extension?

Yes the extension is 35mm ID and 1/8" wall, hoping it takes the heat. I will build more support in later. While the turbo looks heavy it is lighter than the original muffler it replaced that had zero support other than the manifold. I truly wanted the turbo to bolt directly to the exhaust manifold but then the oil drain would have to go down to the oil pan. Remember I didn't want to hack the pan and couldn't uncover the factory oil drain for this block which I believe is the dipstick tube access (although covered by the tractor frame rail). Turbo flange is different bolt pattern than the exhaust manifold also. I suspect the Bobcat manifold is a spendy unit. Another problem I encountered is the fuel tank shield, I couldn't sneak the turbo in under it without modifying it, also the reason I went with a pedestal mount. My air intake pipe is mounted very rigidly and the short intake connector will act as more support and hopefully vibration protection.

I used the valve cover for the drain, it is a very short run and the VW TDI turbo drain hose I hacked up (used part I had) looks like it will work ok, red hose is Gates multi-use hose. I use it for transmission line and fuel line in some applications. It should take the heat and petroleum product hopefully. This turbo should pass a small oil amount compared to a larger unit. Not too worried about the heat in the valve cover or oil drain there is plenty of windage space for the oil drain, also a nicely engineered baffle under the valve cover.

Sorry if I didn't answer any pertinent questions, busy day yesterday then company arrived and out came the beer. 10 inches snow here this morning looks like the hand shovel comes out :(

Fred, back on this today hoping to get a test run out of it with a temporary straight pipe until I find a nicely built short and 304 stainless glasspack so I can fab a sweet little quiet exhaust package. While I liked much noise in my younger days quiet is much nicer nowadays. Every now and again at work a Harley will drive by with bone stock pipes and sounds oh so sweet, usually driven by women.

Hi Fred;
Just found this thread, quite entertaining so I posted to encourage & receive the latest posts.
I installed a turbo on my Ford 1720 a couple years ago & couldn’t be happier.
It was running fine but a bit under powered for my 60” snow-blower, it’s now a torque monster.
I used a waste gated Garrett GT1752 off a Saab that I found at a swap meet.
You will also be happy & probably have a new business supplying turbo kits for Kubota’s!
Good luck with Dyno Day. Would like to see the new HP/torque numbers.

Made slow progress today. Things are tight fit wise for the oil cooler.
Hey .020" clearance is as good as a foot as long as it doesn't touch.
Startup will have to wait another week.

Tight fit for the oil filter/hood. Not sure what to do here. Looking at parts online shows L5740 same oil filter adapter. Wondering if the hoods are way different in this area; they are 1 part number off.

Any replies considered, except torch :)

You could always bulge it out a little in that area.. simple rap with a body hammer would do it :)

I think the hood is wider on the l5740. You see some tractors that the side panel is cut out to fit the filter. A nicely contoured cut would look fine.

Agreed, a nice 1/2 or so around the filter, would still look good and you can always replace the panel again if you had to.

Use a smaller filter so the panel can be installed correctly then run a marker around the filter from the inside , cut it then install the larger filter again.

I'd love a couple of detail shots of the filter/cooler and hood on the 5740 pretty please with a quarter pounder and cheese on top?

Once the weather warms up of course, 1 above here.....OUCH! The remote filter is cool but takes away the simplicity of the feature, too much to go wrong. I have some NICE holesaws but fear the results, not quite there yet.

Bad enough I have to run braided oil hard line because I can't find the correct metal line and banjo fittings to fabricate one.

Fred, and thanks again folks for the looksee.

Excellent idea, Not much for bodywork. Last time I painted a car in the yard I spent 4 hours buffing the mosquitos out of it the next morning :(

Nope. The oil filter if I remember correctly is pretty much the same as it was on my 4240. The biggest difference on the 5740 is the exhaust manifold. The two lines you see on the lower engine block are related to the turbo. Maybe one is an oil feed line and the other a drain?
There must be a coolant line there as well but the shop was busy today so I just snapped the photos quick for you. If you need anymore just let me know.
Your welcome and good luck.

Looks like your filter does not stick out very far.

Wondering the difference, my oil cooler adds 2 inches exactly to the whole package.
Fred

The other thing I got figured is the camshaft installed position is at the 104 degree mark.

Looking good! Been lurking on this thread for a while as it really didn't need my extra 2 cents a midst all the penny-flingin'.

But I fully support this project (I am a mechanical engineer who dyno tests engines for a living). There's no reason why most any of our tractor engines can't be pumped with a moderate amount of boost and a little more fuel. 30-40% power gains should be easy and reliable. I do hope this solves your dissatisfaction with the machine!

I don't know what your plans are but I sure hope you straight pipe it. I have been trying to figure how I can put a vertical exhaust on mine and straight pipe it.

And also the L5740's side panel does not interfere with the oil filter because it raise above it so there is no panel covering the filter. Maybe a 5740 side panel will fit?

[QUOTEFred, This might help some. As you are aware, Bobcat used the V2003T (56 HP) in some models but in same frame without Turbo they used the V2203 (46 HP). So I can't be positive of the specs on V2003 aspirated engine. Comparing specs of V2003T vs V2203 almost everything matches (injection timing, compression, valve lash, etc.) except valve timing.

Compression test in Bobcat specs. fall in line with your findings:

Here is valve timing the V2003T;

Here is valve timing on the V2203;

Injection timing on both is 18 BTDC.][/QUOTE]

Looks like the Bobcat camshaft is installed at the 104 degree intake centerline also.

I cut a 4.5" hole in the side of a hood panel once to make space for a side exhaust when I swapped motors on a garden tractor.. Worked good.

If you do cut it, Fred, you could always rivet a curved piece of sheet metal over it. Painted to match.

for trial runs, why don't ya just take the hood off?
see how it goes and if you keep the turbo then modify the hood
no need now to tare up the hood just yet
