What would be the benefit of doing this anyway?

That photo from /pine is scary, and I'm sure there's a story with that.

I also had a friend blow up a Ruger Redhawk (as I recall) firing "hot" loads. The hammer came back, off, and through that fleshy part of your hand between your thumb and index finger. It stopped about, ohhh, where those two bones in your forearm connect to your wrist! :shocked:He said he threw up when he looked at it. Had to have major surgery and was out of work for months.

I have seen a few examples of the same kind of failure as /pine showed.

The used to be in glass cases at various ranges and gun stores.

In every instance the little write up next to the display attributed the failure to a double charge of powder during reloading, almost always while using a progressive reloader. This is one of the reasons I never used a progressive reloader. When reloading manually an important QC check is to look into all of the cases in a reloading "flat", before starting the bullet seating operation. Not only is a double charge extremely rare when manually reloading, it stands out like a sore thumb on this inspection.

Of course from all my threads on TBN, this was the one my wife read:D:D

So you got your unexpected "ka-boom" after all?:D

Hopefully, she likes you, because if she doesn't, she may slip some extra powder in your reloads.

She actually said you guys are pretty smart and I better do what you say:thumbsup:

I took the ammo apart and now I am loading in 0.2 grain increments. It is gonna be an experiment but safe this time.

One thing in his favor, the GP 100 is a very strong revolver.

As with most machines, it's not the machine that is the lowest common denominator...it's the operator. And just so everyone knows, the strength of the revolver has no implication when you consider that the gas jet ejecting ninety degrees out from the forcing cone/cylinder face is powerful enough to sever a finger. And that is with a standard pressure .38 round. Reloading should be like religion, either be devout or don't practice it.

Glad to hear it nothing is worth getting hurt or worse! Guns can be replaced but body parts are hard to come by.

I chrono all my loads while I am working them up so I know exactly where they perform.

Off subject but as an example because of the ridiculous price of .380 ammo now I went and setup for loading the little critters and worked up a 115 jhp load (since I have them on hand) for my .380 pocket pistols for target practice that worked out beautifully. It took .1 grain increments @ +50fps each to get it right (2.7 gr N320 was the final load @ 800 fps 92 power factor) and there isnt much starting data for .380 with anything bigger than 90-95 grain so did my own safely!!! have fun with it :)
