I just bought an Echo 2511t clone for $99. What was I thinking?

Glad we have a wealth of information here
I've used it on missing flocking on older NLA filters too. Works great.

These are NOS flocked ones but to show.

I haven't seen the back of the OEM echo filter, but will mention that the air filter that came on the Joncutter G2511t had a flange all the way around the opening to seal to the metal housing on the carb. I tried an O ring, but then there wasn't enough room for the filter to seat. Not sure that any O ring is needed on this one anyway. I don't think it's that loose. Sealed the gap in the mesh on the front with a little glue.

Where did you try to put a o-ring?

On my Farmertec one wasnt really needed honestly and just made it even more snug. Almost to much so.

Grease outer only if that is wear you tried to put your oring.

Need to match up right oring for sure to even work right.

I tried putting it around the base of the air filter inlet where you used grease. The blue air filter fits snugly enough that there wasn't space for the o ring I had which was one out of my Harbor Freight assortment of rings.

Ya that why dont work.

See how I done it to butt up against end of mount. Really wasnt needed on the Farmertec one.

Even OEM lets fines by so may want to grease like I showed. I have to do stihl's same way.

Your way of putting the o ring inside the filter throat works. 13.8x2.4mm p14 size from the kit. The throat on the blue air filter that came with the Joncutter, IMO, is an improvement over the OEM design because it fully encircles the outlet. The OEM filter posted previously in this thread does leaves a gap on either side, but the Joncutter filter that came with my saw had a gap between the filter housing and the filter element that I had to seal up. So better design, but maybe not better quality control, IMO.

Now that I look at the filter close up, still see a hole that needs sealing.

Just to show. Grease catching the fines on my oem one.

If grease isnt there on ech and stihls fines will get by into throats of carbs.

My oem fits looser then my clones because I dont have a o-ring in it.

Using both today.

Without grease to stop the fines, that filter looks open on two sides

Yep but if compare the areas where they go made differently too. Air filter mounts.
OEM deeper but not pulling apart to measure anything (if I recall right) v/s clones.

Thats also why oem filters didnt work on the small mounts of clones. Why folks were rednecking big time.
