I am trying to compare the costs of mounting the auger on the backhoe, vs. buying a Skid Steer adaptor plate and fabricating a "snout" about 18" long, which would allow the sides of the existing plate to bolt to it, and using it on the loader arms.
The front hydraulics are 12 gpm and the rear are 16 gpm, so I think I am OK on either end.
The 110 is robust enough so I don't believe an 18" extension in the front would be unreasonable, and the extension would give me good visibility of exactly where the auger was starting.
OTOH, putting the auger on the backhoe would make it more versatile, although at the price of a longer setup for each hole.
I can get a 5/16 skid steer adaptor plate for $128 with free shipping, and a WAG on fabrication of the "snout" is ~$200. If I can buy a JD part for ~$300 and just replace one pin on the auger to hang it from the dipperstick, Then I have options to look at.
How well do the boom and dipperstick pins handle the torque from your PA 30? Does it lead to excessive wear or sloppiness over time? Can you use the PA 30 auger over the full 190 degrees of swing and at any extension of the boom & dipperstick, or are there limits? Essentially my auger is about half the torque of yours, so any position recommended for your use would be OK for me.
