I feel bad...Jake, my Dog ran away

Thanks to you all...for the encouragment ..Jake is still not home and we driven and walked everywhere we can and leave the lights on for him every night..last night was the 2nd night and it is in the 20's here at night..I sure hope he finds his way back..I told the mail lady about it today so she could keep a lookout and the first thing she said is " someone will steal him " he is such a beautiful dog..." That is what I am afraid of ..we are in a rural area and he is a bird dog afterall..Thanks so much for the encouragement and stories, helps alot.

Got my fingers crossed for Jake too Bob. For a Britney, 20 overnight is doable. I wonder how well those tracking collars work? I see them advertised for hunting dogs that run things like coon or bear.

There have been times I would have liked to be able to track our dog , it is very frustrating.

Jake is home ! A neighbor who lives down the road brought him back last night at about 6 PM - They said they had 4 dogs and Jake enjoyed playing with them and they thought he would go home on his own but when he didn't they brought him back since they had seen him on our property in the past. I just wonder why they waited 4 nights and days to bring him back or call us ? But we are glad to have him back and thanks to you all for your encouragement and thoughts..

Glad ole Jake is back, but the experience should tell you something--he longs for and need a companion. The best think I ever did for my dog was to get him a companion. Both are outside dogs, both neutered, both mixed breed and they never stay too far from home. We have 50 acres they roam on and they're always bringing up different things to the yard (a possum saturday).

Where I live, there are a lot of strays and I once had a stray pit bull come up on my porch and attacked my dog at 1:30 am. Had I not heard the wimper, Gus would have been dead as the pit had him in a headlock and another minute or so, he'd been gone. Having two dogs helps out when other strays come this way.

Really is tirerd ..Jake has crashed on the couch..he is worn out..he did not even want to go outside to do his business..I had to coax him..I sure hope he learns from this..I have more grey hairs now than before...It is amazing how much a dog can capture your heart and how much you worry yourself sick for them...are they cold, are they hungry , have they been stolen, will he ever come back, is he being abused ? All those thoughts go through your mind and yet even if you try your best a dog can take advantage of that one opportunity and be off and away in an instant...especially a hunting dog like a Brittany and they are so fast they are gone without a trace in an instant.
