Hot rice in a bowl with a butter pattie, sugar, and a little milk makes a dandy hot breakfast cereal. Top it with a sprinkling of cinnamon and you have a tasty treat; very good with a toasted English muffin.:licking:
Throw in some cream and raisins and bake it for a while in a pan. :licking:

With all this talk of rice and beans I bet yall are fun to take long carrides with lol. I was born in South carolina and lived there a year or so. I contribute my liking of rice and beans to the fact that the folks in Bamberg where I was born ot ate rice and beans 33 meals a day.

:D:D:D I COULD be the cause of Global Warming, errr, excuse me, Climate Change.:laughing::laughing:

The storm is hitting us tomorrow so I made the pork roast, corn bread, and a big pot O Navy Beans. Need the food anyway but now we can just heat it up on the wood stove if we loose power. We are supposed to get up to 1/4 inch of ice.

Too $%^&*( COLD outside to smoke the pork loin like I normally would. So I had to cook it in the oven. Still VERY good. :licking:

Made a double order of Navy Beans. LOTS of onions, some celery we had around the house, LOTS of garlic, Italian Sausage, Balsamic Vinegar, Secret Spices, and Navy Beans. Cooked all afternoon. YUM YUM. :licking:

Also made some Corn Bread in a cast iron skillet. :licking:

SUPPOSEDLY if you soak the bean overnight in salted water they will not contribute to Global Warming/Climate Change.

If you like garlic but despise getting the "paper" off the garlic boil the cloves in water. The "paper" will just slip off. Dracula cannot get us tonight! As soon as he gets in the house the garlic smell will get him! :D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Were the 2 ladies skinny and malnourished or were they pleasingly plump. I'm certain they walked home since they are poor.

Never liked rice... Back in the Philippines now and inlaws still try to get me to eat rice four times a day. Don't like it and never will. They just won't learn to not push rice on me every day.

Mark, one of my brothers claims to have had nothing to eat but rice for awhile in Vietnam, so he won't eat rice at all now. But I'm quite fond of it myself in Mexican food, Chinese, Cajun, etc.

You should see what gets thrown out by kids in school who get the free lunch. Wait till schools are required to have salad bars. Food fight any one?

One reason our so-called 'education' budgets are so high? Maybe if we could cut out all the free breakfasts, lunches, after school snacks, summer time meals, health care and other stuff that has nothing to do ith 'education' we could hold school at half the cost of what we are paying now?

Around 55 years ago.Know of a farm family South of Abiline , Texas that were stranded in a snow storm no power and after the small amount of food had been eaten. were left with a 100 lb. sack of wheat bran so bran pan cakes for breakfast then bran cakes for lunch and bran cakes for evening meal. for over a week before the snow plow cleared a way to get to town. No complaints from the family .You do what you have to do.

Do a google search for poverty in the states and obesity in the states. The poorest states have the highest levels of obesity. Seems counter intuitive, especially if you've seen pictures of people in the depression that are starving. But malnourished and starving are two different words. Poor people have access to less healthy(more fatty) foods.

Its one thing to see people take home a doggy bag from a paid for meal. Most places offer a take home box and it would be wasteful to leave it on the plate. Nothing wrong with that at all.

It is frowned upon to take home a doggy bag from an all you can eat buffet.

It is gluttonous to take more on your plate than you can eat just because you paid for it. I always tell my kids to take less than you think you can eat, then go back for seconds if you are still hungry. Heck, I tell them that at home, too. That wasted food on their plate could be my lunch tomorrow! :licking:
