While doing some loader work yesterday the curl function on my loader stopped working. It is the 419 loader on a 790. The lift function still works, and if you apply downward pressure while backing up it will curl up and if you lift it, it falls down, in other words it is not frozen or locked up in any way.

There is no hydro fluid leaking out anywhere and if you actuate the curl function I can still hear the hydro pump, makes the same sound as when you are fully extended in either direction.

Any ideas as to what I might have broken would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jack,

Double check the couplers first; sometimes they can look like they are attached but aren't.

You didn't say so I'm going to mention it even tho I'm sure you did check the oil level. Other than that it sounds like a valve problem. I wonder if you can swap the hoses so you can use your lift to curl and vice versa just to check the valve?

i could be wrong,, im not a tractor mechanic but it sounds like a problem in your main selector valve assembly. the one your joy stick is stuck in. maybe there is a rebuild kit for it.

This post See if this link helps, I recently posted about the same problem.

Well after checking that link, I see you were in that post, so maybe you have checked all that my next step would have been to use a gauge and find the last point on that circuit with pressure. Good Luck !

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately my tractor lives at my property and I live elsewhere, so any further checking will have to wait to this weekend.

Best thing is the tractor is still under warranty, and as I have a few other things to have looked at, a trip to the local dealer is in my near future.

Thanks again.

Got back to the tractor this weekend, checked all the couplings twice, does not seem to be the problem. Loaded it up and headed to the dealer.

Got bad news when I got there, implements only have a one year warranty, ouch...

Hopefully it won't be to bad, I will post a follow up when I get the damage.

I thought the loader was an "attachment".

Yes, you are right it is an implement, I have had the tractor for just under two years and was mistakenly thinking the loader warranty was the same as the tractor's, which is a two year warranty.

Dealer said he should be back to me in a week or so, hopefully it will not be too expensive. I have to admit to being somewhat disappointed, I only have about 75 hours use on the tractor and certainly a lot less on the loader.

Hoping for good news..............

I hope you checked the actual tips on your couplers, you have pictures of the breakdown

Creeper, no I did not, I just checked to see that they were firmly attached. I don't have any pictures as, there really is nothing to take a picture of.

Are you saying there could be something wrong with the tip of the coupler, where even it were attached completely it could still not be working correctly?

I must admit to a total lack of knowledge on hydraulics.

Thanks for your help.

Yes the coupler will apear to fit fine, but the spring loaded tip on the male end will no longer be spring loaded. The pictures I was reffering to are in a post I marked on the first page of this post. In that post you had requested pics from me and the post included details on repair. Not giving you a hard time, I just thought it was ironic that you requested the pics and then needed them shortly after. I hope youve ot the thing going again by now. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes, it is ironic. I took the tractor into the dealer a little over a week ago, so I am waiting to hear what the damage is.

I did not take it as you were giving me a hard time, as I have said earlier I don't know squat about hydraulics and that is why in your previous post I had asked about pictures as it was hard for me to picture what you were describing.

I hope to hear from the dealer this week on what exactly is wrong with the loader.

Thanks for everyone's help.

My bet is on a bad coupler. I had the same problem switched the hoses around found the problem and came up with a bad coupler same function as you described
I pulled the coupler apart and found that the plunger had been hammering and musheroomed over the end so when I put the coupler together it was not pushing in the plunger...

Thought I would follow up with the resolution to the problem, I got the tractor back last weekend and it turned out the problem was in the control valve, it had to be rebuilt.

Bad news is I was surprised to have such a problem so quickly, good news was the dealer considers the control valve part of the tractor (not part of the loader) so it was still under warranty.

Sure is good to have it back.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for everyone's input.
