Hypertherm plasma

/ Hypertherm plasma #21
I have been debating, wanting something better than the chop saw or the angle grinder for cutting. Can you (or someone else) give a comparison of the different cutting tools and where they fit in and if plasma really takes care of it all? Is it a waste to consider a bandsaw or torches for cutting?

Ken

Ken I think you have to ask your self what kind of cutting will you be doing. Very hard to compete with O/A, and a plasma for ripping sheets. Cutting shapes is a whole different animal all together. I think my Ellis will cut up to 14-inch wide material, I cut all the 12-inch x 19 # beams for my gooseneck adapter with it, but it cost about $3,000.00. My port a band will cut 4 or 5-inch material, and it cost around $300.00. Between those two tools I don't hardly ever use my chop saws. The one chop saw I have with a 7 1/2 HP motor on it was moved out of the shop about 10-years ago. So it boils down to what, and how big of material you'll be cutting.
