Yes a higher flow rate from friends tractor would result in faster operating speed of the splitter.
One thing to note is that tractors do not have hi-lo pumps like log splitter so the speed will stay very similar from no load to splitting. Yes it will slow down a little due to leakage increase with pressure but in most cases this would hardly be noticeable.
Since Reguy has not responded one must presume the problem had been solved.
